F430 tail and brake lights

O.K. so I've been chasing a problem with a brake light burning out bulbs frequently. I checked the manual, and noticed a strange anomaly. On page 92 of the manual, it identifies the outboard light as the "position light and direction indicator" which I would interpret to mean running light (tail light) and turn signal, and the inboard light as the "stop light" which I would understand to be the brake light. But when I step on the brakes the outboard lights come on, and when I use the turn signals, the inboard light comes on. Could someone see how if it is the same on their car? Interested to know if the manual is wrong or if my wiring is goofy.
