Hi, I am in the market for my late production F430 TCU, part # 251619 or 257044, or anything re flashed compatible.

My TCU burnt out in some botched self-learn session. The TCU can be shipped to Oregon or Hong Kong.

It is likely that the ecu is not destroyed but rather it lost the bellville curve self learn info during the self learn. This is common if a full self learn is done with a clutch that has some wear on it rather then just the grid self learn. It can be recovered providing you can find a similar car to get a self learn to complete and then do a manual set up of the clutch on your original car and a grid self learn only.

thank you for the reply. What is a grid self learn? The dash indicator now shows "-".

There are two self learns in the gearbox for the late 430's. The first one wipes out all the clutch data and once wiped out it will generally not pass the clutch bellville curve test. Once this occurs you are dead in the water until you can get the test to complete. The second self learn only does the learning of the shift fork and is what should be done anytime you are retaining a used clutch. This is very likely not a failed ECU but a failed calibration and you will need to get the calibration self learn cycle to complete on any ECU you put into the car before it will work.

i put an early TCU into the car and the car runs, although not perfectly.

does that mean my TCU is really bad?

No it means your original TCU does not have the necessary clutch parameters because they have been cleared and it will not let the car start. It needs to complete and pass the self learn you started.
If you attempt the complete self learn on the TCU you have you will end up with the same error. Whomever did the self learn should correct the issue.
One self learn is only to be used when installing a new clutch the very first step of the process is clearing all the programmed clutch parameters.
The second is for relearning the gear grid on a old clutch.
People think buying the scan tool is the key to fixing the car. Its knowledge of the systems that fixes the car.

I myself did the self-learn. The scan tool won't even "enter" the TCU now.

What CFC level did you use for the diagnosis, assuming this was a Leonardo unit. What scan tool did you use for the self learn.
The TCU is really bulletproof unless something really odd happens. What errors are in the other ECU's in the car. Do the other computers give you communication errors for the TCU.

Hi, thank you for the response.

It is CFC 301, it is a leonardo , yes. I used leonardo for self learn.

    The story is this:

when I was buying the car, during PPI, the bodyshop guy told me the car is 99% a flooded vehicle (my area is frequented by heavy rains). The car is so cheap so I bought it without too much of a thought ( you can't believe the price)

When I was sorting the car out, the PIS is way out so I adjust it and did self learn. What I found during self learn the dash would go like
    1-N-3-1-N-2-N-3-N-4-N-3-N-4-N-5-N-6-N-5-N-6, instead of the normal
    1-2-1-2-3-4-3-4-5-6-5-6

Note that there's always "N" shown on dash between shifts and it always starts with 1-3 ( instead of 1-2)
Accompanying the self-learn, there's also a solenoid noise coming from somewhere I have no idea where it comes from.

I put my friend's 430's TCU ( even if it is a CFC231), and the self-learn immediately becomes normal. So I know it is a TCU issue.

for the next few days, I was chasing the solenoid noise I mentioned. Normally, when the self learn just started there's a certain solenoid open sound, that's where the noise is. It is as if there's sand in the solenoid. In certain circumstances, which I forgot, the car wouldn't do self learn, rather, the solenoid open sound(with noise) would stay there, allowing me to chase the whereabout of the sound. I let the sound stayed there for like 20 minutes and failed to confirm the noise source, but i believe it is the EVF solenoid.

After that, I did a few more cycles of self-learn in succession, the last one of which stopped at 2nd gear. then the dash showed "-" and the f1 pump no longer primes. The TCU is completely dead, I believe. As you suggested, i need to complete the self learn cycle, but I don't know how to complete it with the Leonardo not able to login to the TCU at all.

I put the CFC231 TCU from another 430 again into the car, it immediately comes to life. That's why i believe the TCU is dead.

There's no error on the ignition ecu, except for a MAF failure which I replaced with a new one and solved the problem. I can login to other ecus like ignition and differential ecu without a problem

Being a flooded car would have been a crucial piece of information.

when you say the bellville curve test, are you saying the DEIS process?

No. the scan tool with two separate self learns. Leonardo may call it a DEIS process, I dont have much experience with the Leonardo.
The first choice clears the self learned data for the clutch. Without passing that portion of the test it will not start.
The second self learn available is just the shift grid calculation it leaves the clutch alone.
