Hi Everyone! Here is my custom fabrication / 3D printed Uniden R8 mount and install. This is just what I did and concluded, and not a recommendation to others.

I hate how the suction cups fall off with heat or from a road bump.

I wired it into the overhead light.
    Black: ground
    Each blue is always live
    White: door sensor

I vampire spliced into the ground and the blue. Unfortunately, that means the radar detector is always on so I have to remember to shut it off. I didn’t want to run a wire all the way down like I had in my other F430 but that’s an option if someone wanted it to turn on with the key.

My friend and I designed and printed this mount. We had a couple dozen test variants. Final product is in a high strength material; it is BambuLabs PPA-CF. Has similar x-y axis strength as T6-6061 Aluminum. Polyphthalamide (PPA) reinforced with carbon fiber is an industrial strength material.

I remove the metal mounting piece with 3 screws from the original suction cup mount and screw it into the custom mount.

If anyone wants a mount, I’ll ship it to them for $100 in USA. Obviously, I have no liabilities, I’m not a business, I don’t condone speeding or modifications. Just trying to help if anyone wants one.

You’ll need a longer m6x1.0 (iirc) 20mm screw for the visor mounting area.

Does radar monitoring even work anymore? Seems you get hit by laser and cooked instantly.

Totally depends on your state. If I was where they had lasers, I’d add jammers which are readily available. Slow down then turn off the jammer. However, many states also have made such equipment illegal. Radar jammers are elementary to make too but illegal federally for FCC laws.

Supposedly, you might get a flash real quick from a laser when they’re scanning other people’s cars too, which would be a nice heads-up.

Of course, I use my radar detector to help alert me where cops are up ahead because consistently traffic slams on the brakes when they see a cop which is a hazard. I’m always going below the speed limit so this just helps me know when there will be abrupt braking from others up ahead……..

I also wired mine into the dome light, just pins into the connector.
I simply used a my favorite minimal suction cup mount i use in all my cars. It holds it high and tight to the headliner.

I found the heat of the sun causes the suction cup to fail. I made a mount in my day car too, but much more crude than my Ferrari lol.
