If it's 2008+ it was standard. On earlier cars, you just have to look at the discs. They're noticeably smaller. Plus, all cars should have the build sheet with them as it's easy to get even if it's lost.

If it wasn't crystal in Joe's post above, the steel discs (and rotors) are noticeably smaller, the CCB's are significantly larger, also the CCB's are not smooth metal, they have a patchy look to them, these are mine (springs are normally black, I had mine painted to match the rotors)

Someone mentioned the F1 transmission being a bit different on the later models? What is different about it?

Yes. The only time it's awkward is when someone with CCB's pulls up to the gas pump next to someone with steelies. You both just stare forward and don't look down but deep down inside, you know you're being judged :D

You won't go wrong whatever your decision. I sold my first 430, wanted a 458 but bought another 430. The 458 is amazing, don't get me wrong, just not the right time for me. I like the kick in the back from the single clutch at this stage of life and my car was much less money.

I do appreciate everyone's help on this. Very different from the Porsche forums. Not that people on there were bad, but since there are so many less owners on the Ferrari side, you really just get the most pure enthusiasts on the forums here and it's really great. All this discussion and advice has been amazing and i'm really looking forward to the day when i drive home in my first Ferrari, whatever it might be.

There is an article here on FC somewhere that goes into great details about why you should pick the
458 over the 430, as all the issues with the 430 were fixed in the 458.
TONS of stupid little things that added up to a lot of $$$

Same reason you should get a 430 instead of a 360
and same reason you should get a 360 instead of a 355
and same reason you should get a 355 instead of a 308
    and...

But lets be honest, it stops just before the 488 and I see you left out the 328 and 348 because we all know why :D

I have an 05 and my F1 shifted perfectly when I took it out; very smooth around town, and very fast on track. Just FYI. Get the Carbon brakes, the steelies look ridiculous on the 19 " wheels... if you ever get a F430 that is.

Of note, at this stage, some people have switched from CCB to steelies as they're less expensive to replace pads, in which case they have large discs and rotors, and some people have bumped their steelies up to the larger size, likely much for the look of the larger discs and rotors. Something to be aware of when/if you start looking.

Which means you can find either CCB's or steelies on any car in any year.

To be certain you have to look at the discs.

good call. I'll probably look for a car that has a lot of documentation though so i should be able to find out what changes if any were made to the vehicle. However it does seem like finding an 08 or 09 would be the best bet at finding one with Carbons. I'm not TOO set on Carbons, but not getting brake dust and potentially helping hold the cars value does seem a nice benefit.

Is anyone able to shed some light on why there are so many F430 Spyders for sale vs the coupe? While i wouldnt be totally opposed to a Spyder, i already have a Boxster for my top down experience and i think overall the Coupe looks better.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention in my previous post is that warming up to the 458 (at least for me) was a bit of a slow burn. I came off owning a gated 360 that I loved (but had upgraded the exhaust system on and then didn't enjoy driving it as much due to the additional drone at certain speeds on the highway). In any event, after buying the 458 I wasn't really feeling it at first. It was okay but just something was kinda off I felt.

I realized it might just be my seat position. I ended up spending nearly an hour in the garage going through all the possible seat positions until I found one that much better. Once I got that sorted out and read the owner's manual cover to cover (3 times), then I was able to start playing around with the controls and seeing how everything affected the car on the road. Pretty soon I really fell in love with the 458.

Incidentally, I am kinda in the market for a 360 again (down the road). My neighbor has a super nice 360 spider and after he got it tuned and I drove it, wow. Super fun cars. I'm sure the 430 is in that same class and maybe even a little more so, although for me personally I prefer the smoother styling of the 360.

Hope you find a good car, whichever one you end up with.

    Because it's cold outside.

Generally speaking, the coupe sells for less and was made in larger quantities.

Interesting, i'd assume that i'd see more Coupe's for sale and people trying to take advantage of the fact people dont want to buy a convertible during cold season. But if they are cheaper overall than the Spider, then maybe something might be in the books either next year or the year after. Right now i see a lot of Spiders selling for about 120k with pretty decent low mileage and clean titles. So maybe that 110k Coupe isnt an indication of a bad apple at all.

Prices tend to sink in the colder months as these are fair weather cars for most of the country. Once it gets warm again, spiders will be harder to come by as they get sold quicker. Right now, the market is favoring the coupes I would imagine which is why you’re seeing less of those. Key to the game is patience and casting a broad net. I got my car from the other side of the country as California cars tend to go for about $10k more for some reason.

Yeah that California tax is real. For 458s there are 2 near me at local Ferrari dealerships and selling for close to 40k over a similar specced one that is being sold in Florida. I'll be keeping an eye out for the 430 during the summer to see what prices will be like for Coupes. Ive been hearing some people say that the 488 should be dropping in price over the next few years which should push the 458 and 430 down as well(maybe), so maybe when i'm ready to buy, the choice between the two will be even easier.

I put that Pioneer deck in my 430 and love it. Threw some subs, new speakers/tweeters and an amp in too. Sounds amazing.
