The 296 is a riot to drive! Feels like something out of StarTrek inside, but so quick and responsive.

Thanks! Interior is actually two tone Nero/rosso full leather with CF galore, even the headliners is rosso, it georgeous, truly italian craftmenship at its finest! The 458 is awesome too!!!
And great as long as you are used to a hard ride you wont be disappointed with the 458 its a beast. And as much as my cuz complains about the ride, he likes the rawest of the raw and will eventually trade up to the Speciale when we find the right deal . We had a 997.2 GT3 in the stable thats now a 997.2 GT3RS, which no matter what anyone tells u is terriby harsh to drive on NY streets. But its the pinnacle of 911 N/a power for that era so that had to be the one - though after taking it on one trip out east and 250miles over 8hours, its no longer an option for roadtrips!!

They newer ones are crazy fast so enjoy the rides, but the turbos sound like crap and so not like a ferrari imo, so id never consider them, well if someone gave me a Pista ofcourse i wouldnt say no But there is nothing like N/A from Ferrari no matter the price.

@MMf430 Did you happen to buy your 430 from a fellow Fchatter? The identical car was on my short list a few years ago, as the color combo matched my old M2. Such a cool spec.

I actually ran into a similar issue trying to find drive time in a 360 gated, F430, and 458 pre-purchase. So I just pulled the trigger and had to experience it first hand when I found the right car and use all my senses to determine what was norm.

Interesting that road trips were brought up. Twice I've made the drive (sprint?) round trip from Denver to Simi Valley in my F430 leaving around 2~3am to arrive in the later afternoon.

Despite having to foot the pedal the whole way without cruise control I didn't arrive road fatigued. I never thought of comfort as a consideration but the F430 doesn't abuse you and drinks miles.

    Distance: 1056 miles
    Time: 11.5 hours
    Fuel: 5 stops, 57.129gal
    MPG: 18.4
    Avg. Speed: 90mph

Proverbial haullin' balls and looking/sounding great while doing it.

Thanks, its got truly amazing colors especially when u see live. This is the car you know, the combo is a 1 of 1, while I didnt know him, my dealer purchased from him and that is how i acquired the masterpiece!
Blu mirabeau has so many diff shades depending on light conditions and the rosso interior just pops, im very lucky!

That was my problem too, but eventually if you are serious about a car the seller should let you drive it. I had a lot more luck with private sellers and non-Ferrari/high end dealers. Randomly a Chrysler dealer had a 430 I was looking at and let me drive, then they also had a 458 spyder and without even me asking he offered to have me drive it. Obviously I said yes, and it made my decision on the 430 easier (I didn't like the 458).

If you aren't going to convert your F430 you should test drive a Gallardo. I like the Lamborghini egear when manually controlling it (not in auto mode)

I drove one of these for about a week. my client let me drive it. It was a ton of fun and actually quite usable. The egear is a bit lurchy but fine under a load. car sounded great!

I dont know whats got me still thinking about the 458 so much. The 430 seems to have everything that i'm looking for. The looks, the sound, the price. For me its one of the best looking Ferrari's and right now theres plenty on the market for a great price. But theres something about the 458 thats just tugging at my heart. Not sure if its the slightly more modern styling of the interior, or the fact that when most people think Ferrari, the 458 is the car they think about. Owning an icon is something that is a wonderful experience and i've been lucky to have owned a few in the past. I think i just need to test drive both cars. At this point its the only thing left that i havnt done and i think that will be the main decision maker.

It seems pretty clear that you should buy both.

I'm in the reverse position, where I own both, and probably should sell one.

false. The correct answer is the 308 or the F40. But thanks for playing :D

It's not a generational gap it's a knowledge one. I did snort in amusement at the comment being a 458 being the car they think about. That's the car you think about. ;)

A majority of people can't tell what model a Ferrari is, older or newer. In 5 years the number of people who recognized mine as an F430 can be counted on one hand. The number of wrong guesses "Is that a 360?" outnumber that by 40+, at least. The amount of wrong information out there can't be underestimated.

Just do yourself and us a favor, be polite and tell them they are close and what the model is when you're at your first gas station, public parking lot, office building, or at a stop light. Give people a thumbs up and a big smile or nod when you're being recorded. If they are enthusiasts give 'em a good rev. It could be their first time seeing a Ferrari in person.

For me Ferrari = the 275gts, but thats a long and painful story from the 80s for another time
Then ofcourse its the 308 for any of us that grew up in 70s & 80s, followed by the 288 then testarossa and the almighty F40.
But in my truth its the Enzo and whats closer to the Enzo’s beauty than our lovelys???
99% of the world cant tell the diffence from behind and thats usually the only look they’ll get from me!!

Haha thats probably true, but it also just might be the people i hang around. A lot of people that i know think the F40 is a Lamborghini. But i have a feeling i'm one of the younger people on this forum at the ripe young age of 40. To be honest i never really cared about Ferrari growing up. My car hero was always 90s JDM cars. I never really looked at Ferrari till around the mid 2000s and the 458 was the first modern Ferrari that really made me go "wow". And for myself and lot of my friends, the 458 is the car we think about when we think modern Ferraris. In fact, i was telling my friend the other day that i was thinking about getting a Ferrari, and he (not really being a car guy) basically describes the 458 to me of which i then confirm thats the one.

Personally i'm not too worried about people mistaking my car for something else, it happens on the daily. A lot of people call my Boxster a Cayman, or even a 911. I had someone call my GT4 a Supra at one point. Someone actually mistook my BRZ for a 430 which was crazy to me considering the Subaru emblem looks nothing like the Ferrari emblem nor do the cars look similar at all. And ive had countless people mistake my S2000 for a Miata.

But all that aside, i think i've come to the realization that my brain wants the 430 but my heart wants the 458.

I'm 47 but if you look at my join date I ended up in the Ferrari circle much younger in life when I was into other marques. All it takes is that first spark, but also being Italian I owed it to myself to at least have one Ferrari.

I'm a JDM bro, too. My Supra in it's final incarnation was a 10:1 compression ratio 6spd V160 with a triple RPS carbon clutch slapping down 1121hp/860tq to the wheels at 30psi on a 6766 with E90 fuel with a 4,000rpm power band. Not nearly as crazy as some other builds but nothing a supercar could dream of keeping up with. Now if it's got 500, I'm good. Like you I'm going after new experiences after I was done driving the JDM greats, the Supra, R32 GT-R, R35 GT-R, FD3S, STi, S2000, and 300ZX.

Nice collection! I never did too much in terms of power modding for my cars. The most i did was supercharge my BRZ making 270 whp which for what it was, was great. My old Eclipse GST was pushing 375 whp but the majority of that work was done from the previous owner. Before settling on Ferrari, i was heavily thinking about a MKIV Supra to tinker with or a FD RX-7. My friend just imported a R34 Skyline GTR which is gorgeous. But as you said i wanted to try my hand at some new experiences. Been heavy into the German brands the last decade, trying my hand at a few BMW M Cars and recently been big into Porsches. And to be totally honest i think thats where i'm happy...though with how Porsche have been doing things i've been kind of unhappy and right now the used Italian Market is speaking to me more. So we'll see! I still love my Porsches and my wife really wants a new 911 (partially why it'll be a few years till i get my Ferrari) but i also made it a life goal to own an exotic supercar before i get too old to enjoy it.

If you love jdm rwd era cars the 430 will give the better interior + driving payoff. The 458 is more of a euro experience with light steering and a supercar vibe. I prefer the 430 rear end but the 458 rear guards and side lines more. I wish I could wave a wand and merge the two cars styling lol.

Haha i am much the same, i wish i could combine aspects of both cars. But that is an interesting comparison and one i had not heard before. As i love both german and JDM, the 430 based on that description would seem to slot in perfectly.

That being said i do want to experience that supercar ownership feeling.
