I was looking at a local guy's new F430 and I noticed something that I had never seen before. Underneath the driver's side mirror is a little black nub about the size of a pencil eraser hanging from the bottom. At first I thought maybe it was a light that came on when using the turning signal, but then I noticed the passenger side mirror does not have this.

    Any ideas?

just a wild guess as my '97 355 has the same tities.

could it be the lower pivot for the mirrors?

On the 360, it is outside temp sensor. I guess it's the same thing on the 430.

Okay, I'll throw a monkey wrench into the mix...

Are the door lock remotes even infrared? That seems highly unlikely. They should be RF.

The thing on the dash is for what? My guess is automatic headlight sensor.

I think you might be right Dave.
Does anyone know if 360's or F430's have automatic headlights where they turn on when it gets dark outside?

The 360 does not, I don't believe the 430 does either.

What is the temperature sensor used for? The climate control? There is no outside temp gauge is there?

Yes, there is an outside temp gauge in the 360. As per the MANUAL, its the temp sensor. I hope this settles it.

The one on the dash has something to do with the A/C or the alarm.

My 95 355 has the same little nub, but doesn't have factory keyless entry, no inside temp readout, and certainly no auto headlight feature. Can someone clear this up? There has to be a F-tech out there somewhere that can tell us, I have always been curious about this.

Show us a picture of what you are talking about. Are you talking about a sensor or a guage on the dash?

Would love to see pictures of your yellow/black F430. Please post some.

the nub on the mirror is the temp sensor. you can read the outside temp by pressing "mode" to the left of the steering. the circle on the top of the dash, according to the owners manual is the "sun radiation sensor" for the AC system.
