Will F430 19" wheels fit a 456GT (17")? realise I'll need new tyres, but what about offsets and body clearance ? think they are similar widths ? F430 : 10" rear, 7.5" front 456GT: 10" rear, 8.5" front I presume the steering may be lighter - would this really matter ?
There are several threads on this. The biggest issue is offset, especially in the rear. You're looking at pretty thick--25mm-- spacers, something most of us wouldn't want to do.
+1 and also a 7.5 front would be detrimental to the handling aspect. Rule of thumb is..You can 'upgrade' in size but never 'downgrade'. You need a minimum 255 section in front and at 7.5" width across, even if you can get the same rolling circumference aspect ratio for the new tyres to match your original 456 17" OD, a 255mm section on a 7.5" wide rim would be 255mm -(7.5 X 25.4mm) > 255mm - 190.5mm = 64.5mm excess rubber,i.e 32mm+/- excess shoulder per side of the wheel. Not good for handling. IMHO the best upgrade 'in the family' would be to go for 550/575 wheels, straight bolt ons. Aftermarket, many choices but my fave is Novitec's...
If you decide to go with used factory 550 wheels (which I was tempted to do, but thought they looked a little too plain) make sure you don't get the earlier recalled magnesium wheels. Others can jump in on this but I believe you can tell them by turning them around and looking for cut outs in the spokes. If the spokes are flat on the back, you've got a recalled (and dangerous) set.
Plus, the popular Novitec wheel looks like the Enzo wheels, which are not far from the look of stock 430 wheel. Challenge style wheels from the 612 might be interesting too.
My understanding is that the factory changed the bolt circle for the 612 and 612 wheels won't fit the 456, 550 or 575.
