are there any pictures anywhere of an F430 with a manual gearbox? i know the F1 tranny is a no-cost option, which is enticing, but are there any F430s with 6-speeds?

Wrong. It's not a no cost option; it's $10,000. The ratio of manual to F1 is 1:9.

My dealership (like pretty much all others) has closed the list. I ordered mine in manual as did one other person at my dealership (I guess one guy ordered a spider in a manual, too). That's not a lot of manuals in the entire batch of orders.

What high school did you say you went to? Menlo?

For me, no stick=no interest in the car. And yes I have driven quite a few E-Gear cars.

Me too! That's exactly why I had absolutely no interest in the CS.

It looks like they deliberately made the 430's manual shifter especially ugly to encourage the last remaining manual die-hards to switch to the F1.

Besides, I think they're trying to help out the dealers, who must really appreciate the recurring F1-related service revenue! :)

I saw another one in person yesterday, and it really is not bad at all in person. I ordered one and don't regret it.

i would personally go for the paddle shifters in the f430, but in a 360 or 355 i would go for the stick. but i totally agree that ferrari may have made it look bad so more people would buy the F1.

yes, i do live in the 94027 zip code, and for those wondering (i know there's at least one), i go to Crystal Springs in Hillsborough.

Is this based upon your firsthand experience?

Loving the manual shifter is OK with me, but my experience with two 360 F-1 cars over several years has proven the tranny/clutch to be very reliable and trouble free. Of course, this assumes the user understands how to drive/operate the F-1 clutch, especially upon initial take-up/launch. ;)

Obviously not. Like I said, I would never buy an F1 Ferrari or any other sports car which was automated to such an extent.

However, my comment reflects numerous posts on this site reporting F1-related problems as well as information I have gleaned from conversations with service managers, techs and other employees at Ferrari service centers.

Apparently, even according to Ferrari NA, the design life of an F1 clutch is around 10K. That makes no difference to me though. Even if the F1 system outlasted the rest of the car with zero defects and zero service requirements, I would not be the least bit interested.

Like all things, it's just personal preference! :)

As I attempted to show with the 250 GTO pic I posted in the other thread, a raised shifter has made an appearance in numerous Ferraris throughout history, including some of the most special. Not only is it not an "afterthought," it recalls great Ferraris of the past.

(It is also functional, allowing less hand movement from the wheel to the shifter: the hand has to travel less vertically, making for quicker shifting and a better driving experience.)

I think if you opt for the aluminum trim for the dashboard instead of the carbon fiber and get a lighter interior color, such as tan, the aluminum pedestal style shifter will look more intergrated with the rest of the interior rather than an afterthought. So far I've only seen pics of the shifter with a black interior and CF trim. I plan to order mine with the aluminum trim and perhaps dark tan interior when my name comes up. Too bad, though, the shifter doesn't look as good as the one on the 360.

I saw a 6 speed for the first time in person today, and you are all loony. It looks great and looks like dozens of the ferraris of days gone by.

I too saw the 6-speed in person today for the first time. I don't think pictures do it justice, much like the 430 itself.

It looks fine in person. There's no reason to b!tch about it, seriously.

Seems like the Al "box" the gate sits on would look better in carbon fiber. Might be a good after market purchase... - Tim

Has anyone here driven a 3 pedal 430? I'd be interested to hear how the clutch effort and shifter throws compare to the 360.

Here's a picture of a 6-speed manual in an F430 I took at the Wynn Hotel with a beige interior. I think it looks better in person than in pictures, especially with the lighter interior. I've only seen pictures of the shifter with a dark interior. I was surprised to actually see an F430 with the manual shifter. BTW, the base sticker price was $163,840. With gas guzzler tax, preparation and destination charges the car will be around $170K without any options.
