I just finished hardwiring a radar in my F8. It is a very simple process and takes about 20 minutes. Below are some photos and the steps. The only thing you will need is a mirror tap wire.
    1. Remove the plastic housing from the mirror. It is a 2 part system and the middle piece just pulls down and set that aside. To remove the housing it is connected with 4 tabs (see photo). Use a pry tool and Just pull down starting at the plastic closest to the mirror and pull down. There are 2 tabs close to the mirror and 2 tabs close to the windshield. It does not take much force at all.
    2. Use the mirror tap and connect the red wire to the blue wire (far left of the plug). Connect the black wire to the brown/blue wire (second from right).
    3. Tuck the wire in and reconnect the mirror housing. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

I saw a blendmount link someone posted once before and again now so it reminds me- it looks like it’s made of metal/aluminum?? With no padding or rubber or anything…. Doesn’t that scratch the hell out of the mirror housing and wherever else it touches?? I like it but don’t want to just clunk a chunk of metal against housing and plastics and glass..

As I recall it came with a bushing in the clamp. Once its tightened it won’t move so scratching isn't likely and it doesn't touch any other parts of the car.

It looks like you used some type of connector with a wire coming out and tucked this wire into the back of the harness connector. Is it just tucked in or is there some type of fitting on it?

It is the blendmount wire tap or mirror tap. You can order off of Amazon. They had metal taps the squeeze into the back of the wire harness. It is a very tight fit and is secure once you slide it in. (Perfect place for Todd or Eric to chime in).

I'd love to do this on my F8 but honestly scared.... me and splicing in historically doesn't go well.

Yea, these DYIs all lookeasy on Youtube. I did mine with lots of light and was very careful using a multimeter.

Last year, tried doing same on a C8, no multimeter, crossed wires in low light; causing the electric side mirror to frost up. Somehow that mirror self-healed itself in two weeks.

A C8 mirror glass is about $100. Ferrari mirror - maybe thousands.

I have always had my dealer do the wiring. I’m a complete knucklehead.
