Statistics say otherwise: no more than any other place in Paris. But stopping at a small number of stations is better avoided during the night (usually, stopping OUTSIDE those stations is better avoided at the same periods as well). Exercise caution and good common sense, like in any other major city. Rgds
It started 20 years ago, when the Présidents de la République touring the "salon de l'auto" ceased to stop at the "sportscars makers" stands, then ignored these completly. A small detail, but showing that things were changing. Mind you, the french industry hasn't produced a decent engine over four cylinders since...well, the Matra V12? And that was a racing engine. Président Pompidou always stopped at the "Sportscars makers" stands; heck, he even came to work at the Elysées with his Porsche. That was fifty years ago. Times change. Rgds
Yep, but that V6 was made by Maserati. And the less we say about the PRV V6 (at 90° angle...!!) the better. Rgds
I can't resist. You mean that engine with which they messed up the otherwise beautiful Pininfarina-styled 504 Coupé? Which they (Peugeot) now reissue as a retro style EV? Best Regards Martin
I like the original one very much, especially the cabriolet, BUT unfortunately most are rust buckets today. Finding one that doesn't have the transverse longerons eaten by rust is very, very difficult. Otherwise, a vey nice car. Rgds
The XM had its own V6 - I don't know who made it but it certainly wasn't Maserati. The Maserati engined Citroen was the SM, of course. That was also 90 degrees. I had one in my Biturbo & it was the best part of the car..
The XM used two different V6s, actually. At the start of production, the infamous PRV in its last itteration, for which the official doxa was that with split crankpins, the troubles caused by its 90° angle were now over... And then, the new ESL, which was a brand new engine from a venture between Peugeot/Citroen and Renault, and, guess what...has the traditional 60° angle opening between the banks. Maybe the 90° opening was indeed a dead end for a V6 from the start, after all... Rgds
See my answer above, Martin: the last itteration of the PRV at the start of XM production, then the brand new ESL, another V6, but with the "correct" 60° angle between the banks. I can't care less about Citroën, either. Rgds
Bruno, I deleted my post, because you were faster and more detailed. My favourite french car: Image Unavailable, Please Login This pic is from the Tour Auto 1999, shot at Saverne. BTW, the Daytona is the car of Clay Regazzoni, converted for his paraplegia. Best Regards Martin
The PRV-V6 was supposed to be PRV-V8, the 90 degree angle comes from there. Then came the energy crisis -74 and 2 cylinders were cut off in haste, for Volvo anyhow, to get it in the new 264 1976. The old straight B30 6 cylinder could not be modified to pass CARB emissions. I was there! ///TRS PS. Just noticed this tread started with F8 Tributo. Now i write of 1976 Volvo 264?
You're right, Tommy, of course. But as we were already derailing the thread somewhat, I chose to let these details out. Rgds
I had recognised Saverne at first glance, Martin. Almost as typical as the "Château des Rohan" in Strasbourg. Yep, that car, and its engine, were "something else" indeed. Rgds
Bruno, what do you think? How long will the Tour Auto still exist given the political atmosphere? (BTW! we have a 'Palais Rohan' in my small town). And a strong connection to the french history. Maybe you know. I'm living, where Napoleon 'collected' the Duc d'Enghien in the middle of the night, took him to Vincennes and shot him there. The location is just 1min. by feet around the corner. Best Regards Martin
I remember where you live, Martin: I sent you a (imitation of) a Pozzi sticker there once... As for the rest, well...at the risk of being largely out of topic, there is no threat on the Tour Auto, yet. But it is clear if you consider the additional taxes they voted last year for the change of registration in France of the so-called "powerful vehicles" (read "highly polluting devil's machine") that the writing is on the wall. The first 550s (not the second part of production) the 360s, 355s, 328s, 308s are not concerned...yet. but it will come, of course. It has added to an already weak market for 430s, for instance. Without taking into account that a 308 doing only 1500 kms a year pollutes much less that any econobox doing 16.000 kms a year... Rgds
Of course I remember. You even sent me the sticker twice, since the first didn't work - or because I was too stupid to handle it. Still don't know. I just cannot remember, if we ever discussed our relationship with the french history. Really a special tax for registration for 'powerful vehicles'? I cannot find further, detailed informations. Examples? I thought it's just an increased tax on the purchase price, which would offer the french customers to go to other EU-countries. Best Martin
While talking of transportation in Paris, is it allowed to drive "old" cars in Paris centre nowadays? Been thinking of taking my -85 to visit my aunt who has been living in Paris since the 50:s but not sure if it is allowed. There was a discussion of completely banning older cars but do not know how it went. ///TRS
Tommi, as far as I know, there's a complete ban in the region within the 'Peripherique'. But of course Bruno will know more detailed. If you would like to inform you about all european zones, there's an app for your mobile device which is very useful. https://www.green-zones.eu/en/info-apps/information-offers/the-green-zones-app.html Best from Germany Martin
Tommi, Basically: they are banned from 8:00 in the morning to 20:00 on working days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday). Still free for the time being on Saturday and Sunday. Except during the days of "heavy pollution" when they are totally banned. Rgds
Further derailing the thread, but...in a few short words: new from last year, Martin! New tax for "gas guzzling/heavy polluting cars" at each change of ownership for cars "above 35 fiscal horsepower" (above 35, for the time being, that is!) increased for each horsepower above 35. Very dissuasive... Rgds
It's nice to know the official press references 1975 308 GTB. I remember seeing a quote from Lamborghini Countach designer Gandini to the effect of "the 308 GTB is almost perfect design for a 2-seater Belinetta", Was it during an TV interview? Can someone repost that exact quote. Tried search but could not find. Thanks !
That confirms how interesting the F8 Tributo is for us 3x8 lovers BTW. I sometimes notice, that some are worried about derailing a thread, when the current conversation gets more fun than the original topic. I see, that's rarely a problem here on FChat and that's what I like here. On forums over here we get repeatedly disciplined when going off-topic and I left those forums. When we hear "stay on-topic" or "use the search function" we think 'forum-nazis'. I'm german and therefore I'm allowed to use this abuse Best from Germany Martin
