I thought I'd share a video and some images of my F8 Spider project. I machined a mold on one of my CNC machines for a carbon fiber gas cap cover for my F8S. The cover is made of a plain weave carbon fiber, chopped carbon fiber, epoxy resin, and stainless steel threaded inserts used to mount the cover to the pivot. I'm happy with how it turned out. I have about 2000 miles on the car since mounting the cover and so far so good.

The epoxy is added to the part using a resin transfer molding process that pulls a vacuum in the mold cavity and draws resin through the carbon fiber reinforcement. The part comes out of the mold with an excellent surface finish.

Next up is a carbon fiber brake pedal and a one-piece carbon fiber engine cover.

The gas cap looks great, congrats! I’m curious as to why you’d want a carbon fiber brake pedal (other than the aesthetics)… I’d be concerned that it could crack in a panic stop and/or spirited driving.

Either way, great job and best of luck!

Thanks. The brake pedal will look pretty cool. I'll test it up to a significant force in my facility to include fatigue testing. I have no doubt carbon fiber designed properly will be plenty strong enough. The more challenging piece is the engine cover as it requires mounting points for the air springs and hinges.
