If only a few updates were available that might be realistic. http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/6946659/Alonso-I-can-still-win-the-title Now Stefano wants the hard tire altered. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91669 How about building a better car first. Too late he has admitted they were too conservative with this design already. Altering the tire wont help the inherent downforce problem. They need results fast or Alonso might not wait to see his full contract out. He is a strong driver. Is he as patient as he is strong?
Where would he go, though? McLaren is out. I imagine RBR are happy with their crew. Back to Renault for the 9th time?
He's locked in with Ferrari and they're not going to let him go. Luca can afford to break driver contracts, I doubt drivers can. And plus, I see Lewis going to RB before Alonso.
I think they need to give him a good car next year, showing improvements by the end of this one. I give them 2 years to make him happy or he leaves. They wont find a better driver to get the most out of the car currently. Im not a serious FA fan but he is talented and can win with the right machine. Ferrari need to provide soon.
Sounds like he is clutching at straws, "we need to work closely with Pirelli." Meaning: change the tyre to suit are car.. how about changing the car to suit the tyres. Ferrari have shown they can bounce back strong, we shall see for the rest of this year. Also get some fresh blood in that can think outside the box, mainly in the engineering department...
They better do this first and quick! IMHO Oh I guess quick is out since they should have done this about two years ago.
Suuurrre Alonso can do well. They just need to bring back the Bridgestones for Ferrari. Weird series, these days. They've intentionally sent the teams out without enough dry tires for a weekend. (3 quali segments and five tire stints (on a four stop race) = 8 sets. And they get 6 sets (3 prime, 3 opts).) ... On tires designed to fall apart. I'm amazed Pirelli would put up with that. It's not exactly great advertising for Pirelli street tires. But it does show how important tires are on a Ferrari. (Remember the Top Gear episode where they found that the 430 was slower than the 360 --- on different tires?)
As long as my drivers are still mathmatically alive in the title hunt, I would expect no less of an attitude toward winning from them.
Go Karthikeyan, go! Wouldn't you find it somewhat bizarre if not downright arrogant if some backmarker or even midfield driver starts talking about challenging for the WDC and potentially winning it? "mathematically alive" includes the entire field at this point and on to about 2/3 of the season. Realistically about 5 drivers have a shot at the title and those I expect to have a winning attitude. As for the rest, just do the best effort you can. But please don't talk about WDCs.
Exactly. Which is why I do not see what is so wrong with FA's thinking. I will take a driver that qualified 15th but willing to drive his heart out trying to win the race over another, who qualified in the top 5 but ready to lose before the race on any given Sunday. Winner mentality is what brings a team together, and that is what I want on my team. Even if it is the last race of the year and the titles has already been settled, I still want my drivers to go out on the track with a winning attitude and race competitively to try and win the race.
