Sorry, they just sold!
So I picked up the car today. My initial impressions are; 1. The car builds a glorious crescendo as it always should have from day one. 2. With the valves closed it is quiet in the car and very relaxing. 3. There is no drone at all! 4. With the valves open the sound is not as loud as I expected from inside the car with the windows up. However, with the windows open it is very loud and from behind it may be quite obnoxious. 5. I think it will get louder as the CATS burn in. 6. Throttle response is so much better and the car definitely has more power. Probably as much power as I would want based on the current chassis and brakes. Another box ticked and the 599 next! Any comment on backpressure with valves open, regarding crackling and burbling? Just right?? Too Much??
So I went for a drive on Sunday with some mates; 3 x Monza’s 5 x SF90’s 2 x 296’s 2 x Roma’s And I couldn’t believe how the 575 held court in the canyons. I was very surprised at how fast it was! So much faster! When I started this project 10 months ago, I never thought I would have arrived here! All of the guys all couldn’t believe how good my car sounded and looked on the road!! Pleased to be a little further into the club. I had installed Fiammenghi's double H-pipe last year to reduce the drone caused by my Dimex mufflers and that worked very efficiently. I just installed Fiammenghi's 6-1 race headers and must say the results are astounding. The sound on full load in tunnels is very F1-esque, but on an engine as large as 5.5L it's brutally intense to the point of wondering if tunnel walls will collapse. With the windows down by about an inch it's quite loud already and I dread to think how LOUD it must be for other road users... Absolutely fabulous. May I add that the sound is not the high pitch ear-piercing shriek suggested by most online videos and has just the right amount of medium pitch to make it enjoyable despite the high volume, in a very similar manner to a Capristo muffler on an F355, at least according to my ears. Fabio Fiammenghi is nothing less than the Leonardo Da Vinci of Ferrari exhausts. In the same way that an F355 can, in my opinion, only come into its own sound-wise with a Capristo muffler I reckon that Fiammenghi's 6-1 headers are an absolute must have for the 550. Though stock 6-2-1 headers do make for more instant torque at throttle tip-in they strangle the engine up top and make it sound like an embarrassing nasal fanfare unworthy of the Ferrari badge, especially a Ferrari as brilliant as the 550. I'm totally stoked.
Fiammenghi is the best exhaust producer period. It’s amazing that 550 owners have one of the few cars that can actually enjoy a hand made Italian exhaust like this.
Here is how my car sounds. At long last I really like the sound this engine makes. Thank you Mr. Fiammenghi.
I saw Fabio's car outside, but was not able to meet him. Would have been great to speak in person after so much email communication.
