I was just doing some checking and found that the Fabspeed Cat converter for a 328 is 2x the price of he Hyperflow Cat converter. They look identical. What the heck's up with that?

ALSO, I notice that Ricambi doesn't seem to carry Hyperflow any more. What's up with THAT?

This checking is in preparation for the slow down light microprocessor that (hopefully) is in the works. I have the OEM cat but would prefer to leave it in the box in the garage so I can charge the next owner more for my "all-original" car! ;)

Thanks, I was thinking they were around $500 from what I remembered a while back but when I went to the site and saw the current price I figured I had misremembered. Glad to see I had not!

Obviously that price is a total non-starter when the Hyperflow is 1/2 that. Of course, there are other Cat options that are less than 1/2 of the Hyperflow price as well though they probably aren't "bolt-in" without some mods - but easy enough for any muff shop.

Maybe Fabspeed decided they didn't REALLY want to be in the Ferrari 3x8 aftermarket cat business so they adjusted the price so that they wouldn't really expect to sell any. From the appearance I suspect that the Fabspeed and HF cat are from the same supplier, just like a Die Hard battery and an Interstate battery of the same spec are the same battery made by Johnson Controls and re-branded.

Mike996, I don't think that FabSpeed and Hyper-Flow are from the same supplier, although I can see why you'd suspect that.

FabSpeeds were HALF the cost of HyperFlows when I got mine a few months ago.

They may not be from the same supplier but from the pics, they look identical - I realize that doesn't mean they are. I have never seen a Fabspeed cat in person; I purchased/installed a HF cat on my 328 when I first bought it, pulling the OEM Cat, which was in perfect condition and didn't need replacing as it turned out. So I'm quite familiar with the HF cat. I sold it to a fellow F chatter when my slow-down system went south in 2009 and I purchased/installed the straight pipe which has been on the car since then.

I'm fine with any brand Cat that will fit since there is no functional difference between modern cats as long as they are the correct size for the engine's output. But the HF (and the Fabspeed), with their nice chrome finish, sure are pretty! ;) That's probably a couple hundred bucks right there! :)

Heck, here's one for 52 bucks! But I don't see the fitting for the Thermocouple...

Some chrome plating and we could sell it for $250 as a "HyperSpeed" or a "FabFlow" :) :)
