Recently bought some used Fabspeed headers and blanks, they have 8500 miles.
As a mechanical engineer with extensive experience in material selection, I'm highly concerned by the premature degradation of these blankets after only 8,500 miles. This indicates extremely poor material quality and inappropriate material selection for the intended application.
    Specifically:
    * The interior blanket material has melted, mirroring the shape of the headers. This clearly demonstrates its inability to withstand header temperatures, even those on a road car.
    * The exterior material is fraying and disintegrating.
    * During my attempt to re-install the blankets (even with safety wire due to the original spring hooks tearing off), they essentially disintegrated. I couldn't even secure them to the header.
Given these severe issues, I cannot justify purchasing these blankets again, nor would I recommend them to anyone.
After contacting Fabspeed directly and presenting the evidence I was told these are a wear item and best they can do is offer a 10% discount on a new set which I have no doubt will dissinegrate /melt away in a few thousand miles. Would not recommend this product.

Seems like they've been removed and reinstalled a few times. There's no reason for them to look like that if they were left alone. Mine still look like new after about 4k miles.

How does removing them cause them to fall apart? Removal and install of these is super straight forward and easy, not like you are fighting to put them on. In addition it doesn't explain the melted interior material. I bet if you look at the inside of yours you will find something similar, unless they updated materials.

Header wrap is similar. Once it goes through a number of heat cycles, it just falls apart. Never meant to be taken off and used again despite being used for the same purpose. I don't believe these were ever meant to survive being on multiple sets of headers.

Not sure if there are other alternates for soft blankets though. Here's another company that does similar covers but maybe they have a different system? https://funkmotorsport.com/product-category/heat-management/manifold-blankets/

The best solution is the corrugated metal shielding that gets welded together like this: https://headershield.com/

Yes, they can become brittle over time, but playing around with them doesn't help. People can be careless DIY'ers.

yep, I will sometimes remind people to look up reviews before buying their products....sorry this happened (from another Mechanical Engineer).
