From May 2008 Sports Car Market coverage of Bonham's auction in Paris in February: "1972 Ferrari 246 GTS Dino spyder. S/N 03902. Red/Black leather. Odo: 47932 km. Very good panel fit aside from front lid sitting high on rear edge. Good paint shows some microblistering and small bubbles on the right side of cowl near windshield. Good chrome and trim, nice glass. Clean interior fitted with removable faceplate cassette stereo and custom made center console. Cond: 3-. Sold at $183,425. A good looking 2.4 Dino with full ownership history and stated to have an engine upgraded to 240hp by the Ferrari factory in 2003. Sold at Bonhams Gstaad in December '06 for $147,473 and it had been driven a grand total of 44 km since. Very well sold!" I'm very curious what the Ferrari factory did to get 240 hp. I'm sure we could all use another 40+ ponies, as a factory approved modification.
Dunno what they did, but my car (oops, UroTrash's car) makes about 180 RWHP so that's what, maybe 200-205 crank HP. Just pushed up the compression a little and put a Stebro sport exhaust on the back, and then had it very carefully tuned by a very good mechanic. It's a US spec car, so at the factory it made 175 crank HP. that's 30 addl. HP without a huge effort. I'm sure we could have squeezed some more out of it if we had wanted to. DM
when this car was sold at gstaad, more photo's of this car were shown. the custom made center console is barely mentioned, but it looks horrible, the other changes made are horrible. i would really question the mods to the engine and whether they were done in a manner that would be useful longterm
