I'm trying to complete the free Heritage Certificate on the Ferrari factory owner's site and it is asking me these 4 questions.

    1) Chassis number *
    2) Type of engine *
    3) Number of engine *
    4) Type of gearbox *
    5) Number of gearbox *

    I have a 1973 246 GTS,
    Thanks

Chassis number is stamped onto the frame on the driver's left side of the engine compartment. (If you lift up the engine cover from the driver's side (assuming LHD), it will be toward the back of the car. You might have to scrape off some accumulated grunge to be able to read the number. If the car in question is indeed a '73, the number should start with a 6 or 7 after a couple of zeros. Mine is a '73 GTS #7412.

Let me know if you'd like for me to post a photo...

you need to jack the car up to find the gearbox number. From memory I think it is on the right hand side of the gearbox case, near the back

The gearbox type and number will look like the attached photo. It's located near one of the engine mount flanges.

The engine serial number on my car is located near the oil filter. The owner's manual shows where to look.

    Hope this helps

I received Heritage Certificate for my 246GT. My car is a 1972 USA Version.

Type of engine should be 135CS.

Number of engine is located behind oil filter facing up (angled up towards rear) and separated to 2. Left part should says "135CS 000" and right part says "*0010319*" (for my car). Right part of the number is the one you need for engine number. I had to use small mirror to get there and read.

Type of gearbox should be 607.

Number of gearbox is located at corner of right side (passenger side) towards rear and facing down (ground). My car only stamped "1391E" on it unlike Pietro's photo. I assume letter M or E indicate series of the car.

My digital camera is broken and off to repair right now to show you the exact location of engine number.

    I submitted mine as follow:
    1) 04256
    2) 135CS
    3) 0010319
    4) 607
    5) 1391E

Thank you for the clarification, but I can not find the engine number on my car and I've even taken the oil filter off to get a better look.

The photo shows two cars for comparison with my USA version car in the top portion and a Euro car in the lower. The Euro car clearly shows the Engine numbers that you describe, but nothing in the same location for my USA version. These cars are just 320 production numbers apart, but I imagine a Euro and USA version could be different.

Am I looking in the correct location on the engine block, behind the oil filter and below the base of the rear head, just aft of the water pump mounting area? Is there perhaps another location where I might find the engine number?

I'd really like to get a heritage certificate, and think there is a good chance of the certificate being superceded by their Ferrari Classiche division, so any help is much appreciated.

    Thank you

I just took these pictures. 1st picture was taken from between Oil Filler Cap (rear one) and Distibutor looking straight down. 2nd picture was taken from right side of Distributor looking down towards rear of the car. Engine number is located directly under Distributor. I have removed a few parts in the engine bay so I can see it now but I couldn't read it before without using small mirror.

    Scott,
You are looking at right place but wrong angle. Your Euro Version picture where your engine number was stamped, there is a flat spot on top for USA Version car which I don't see on Euro Version. For actual engine number, if you follow the flat spot to the right, you will find a Nut and over that, you will find another flat spot where you will find engine number.

Thanks, I finally removed the wheel and access panel, then cleaned the area and found all the numbers. Today I went to submit it to the owners website:
    http://www.ferrariowners.com/cgi-bin/Feros/os/jsp/18_12_vintage_0440.jsp?areaHeader=vintage&areaMenu=vintage&selectedMenu=3&BV_SessionID=@@@@1010661717.1168385767@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccdaddjlfkmfijcefeceegdgimdfmk.0

and now all the want is the model, chassis number and engine number.
Perhaps the figured that entering the engine type, transmission type, differential/transaxle numbers, etc was redundant.

Then again, I'm still of the belief that the Heritage Certificate is a competitor to the Ferrari Classiche Department and will be discontinued before long...

It is back on the owner's website with a new name:
    Conferma Originalita Colori

Not too much has changed, but you only need 3 things
    - the Model,
    - Chassis Number and
    - Engine Number

i am obviously not capable of managing this task. i am able to find the first part between the rear oil filler and the left of the distributer. however, the part where the actual number is is impossible to see, as there is a hose running over it. not only can i not get a view of the numbers at all, i also can't manage to mirror the number due to the angles that i have to work with.

what am i missing here? did you guys remove stuff in order to see the number? did you go up from below the car?

    please help me out.

    Yes, it is very tight.

I had to push the hoses out of the way with one hand, shove the digital camera down there, then take a picture. Examine the photo and repeat until I could read the engine number.

Make sure the camera is on close up mode

    Scott -

Apparently I need your help finding all of my relevant numbers. Even with the engine out and Carlo, Lino, P. Carey, and me all looking for them, we couldn't find them.

    How about this weekend?

allright, for at least one of my cars, i have found the number. the car is a us spec car and the number isn't where shown. the number is on the side of the engine block, similar - but not exact- to where the euro numbers are shown.

Wow, sure took me a while to find the engine number on mine. I finally managed to wipe away partial layer of buildup and part of the number was visible. It was like unearthing Pompeii. Now it would be easy for me to find...I snapped 30 various photos before I stumbled across it.

Ohhh, wait...that is part number 135 CS 000....arrrrggghhh. I'm close though...back down to the garage ;)
