Here's a bunch of pix I took between 1980 and 1985 at the factory in Maranello and at Carrozzeria Scaglietti in downtown Modena. Those were the years of the 208s and 308s, 512 BBs and Testarossas. In fact I even catched one of the camouflaged Testarossa prototypes entering the Fiorano test track and a 288 GTO prototype which - at first glance - looked like a standard 308 GTB. As can be seen in photo #6 the factory produced also tractor cabins, together with Ferraris at the same time.

Things sure have changed in 25 years! Fantastic pics. I was there last September and no camaras allowed. Even saw the test mules but couldn't snap anything. Thanks for the pics. The GTO and silver BBi are amazing!

No, not really. It was the fact that it was the first so-called supercar and its limited production.

I suppose that 308 GTB, approaching Fiorano, is the test mule for the 288GTO-engine, no? It has the same bonnet louvres as the 288.

    Marcel,
thank you. It is such a treat to see pictures that may contain the building of my car. It would be great to see these and others of the era in a book.

Marcel, you just made my day! These pictures are incredible! Not only are they a glimpse into the marque's past, (something that can be appreciated by owners, fans, and even Ferrari historians), they also reinforce the timeless beauty of Pinin Farina's designs. They really should be in a book. Thanks!

In those days (late 70s and early 80s) it was also a bit easier to visit the factory race departement. Here are some shots, taken during various visits. The last photo shows part of the factory assembly sheet for Villeneuve's GP Canada 1979 Formula One car with chassis #041.

There were ROWS and ROWS of brand new red Testarossas at the factory in 1984 and 1985. The cars couldn't be delivered to dealers because they were waiting for missing parts. The typical Italian problem.

That must have been a sight to behold! What were you driving at the time? :D

Fascinating to see that names as ´Gilles Villeneuve´ and ´Rene Arnoux´ are just all in a days work for some. I´ve always felt that the 126C3 looks really awkward, were as the 126C2 is one of the best looking F1 cars ever.

Thanks again for posting from your personal files.
