So I pulled my radio out today to get the gauge surround off only to learn the factory cage has bent over tabs holding it in - WTF! And the thing is made of tin foil so mine now looks like a pretzel after getting it out.

I guess I can straighten it out and reuse or I'll see if Ricambi sells a new one cheap.

Me and my bright ideas since the gauge surround is not sticky yet - I was being proactive... :-(

The metal tabs that are bent over is what holds the radio in place in a vehicles dash. Each manufacture supplies a new metal "cage" with each model. Every manufacture uses a different style cage. Some vehicles dont use them such as toyota. All cars use different mounting systems. Just reuse yours, it will be fine. If you purchase a new radio then you will recieve a new cage with it.

Aftermarket radios are the same, I just dealt with the same thing on my Sony unit when de-stickying my gauge surround. It was a pain getting it back in as well but worth the effort as there's no more sticky mess and fingerprints on the surround.

I've emailed Daniel at Ricambi - if the part is cheap, I'll buy a new one. Not that it will be seen but I don't want the hack job to go back in if I can help it LOL
