Just made an offer on a new set available on eBay, and he accepted the offer of $1k. Having absolutely no reference on whether this was a good deal or bad deal (too late now), it was $800 less than his 'buy it now' number. I did see someone selling just the binders for around $500 or so (no content), so I figured 'what the heck'. It'll ruin my day, but how much did I overpay for the set?

Not sure but that sounds like a OK deal to me if they are complete. This will become an even better deal if you use them to their full extend and do all your servicing with them. The money saved will soon outweigh the cost of the manuals.

If you are getting all 3 volumns of the actual factory manual with all the electrical diagrams and the updates and the US pages and it is good condition it is a good deal.

Thanks for the input...I'll sleep better tonight.

Per the seller, they are new and with the binders. I believe he has another new set available.

And yes, as an inveterate intrepid wrench undaunted by precious few automotive tasks, the manuals will be a great reference source. The dilemma with Ferrari's (as viewed at this early stage of ownership) is that people seem to be insistent on factory trained service and repair as part of the provenance of the car. Heck, I insisted on seeing the records when buying my car.

It makes for an interesting question: factory service records preserve the higher value for your car (particularly when accompanied by records), but (and I don't think I'm going way out on the limb here....) one of the reasons we're in 355's as opposed to a 430 is the substantial cost differential. The 355 was all that I could afford, and it took plenty of years and a home sale to make it happen....but I'm in the game. So, personal servicing is a real issue to keep it up to snuff while still being solvent. Now, what makes this all the better for me (and I'm not rationalizing the cost here...) is that I happen to think that the 355 Berlinetta is one of the best styled Ferraris ever.

...kinda hate to do this, but I purchased a 2 CD-ROM set of F355 Factory Repair Manuals (including: all repair volumes, 1995-1999 owner's manuals, all updates, and all Factory recall sheets) in printable, searchable .pdf format. Cost = $34.95 including shipping. However, it did NOT include Electical Diagrams, which, as we all know, can be very handy!

When all is said and done, I wish I actually had a totaly complete OEM Manual Set like this. I probably would also have paid $1000.00 for the set. Hope they are great and you use them!

P.S. I agree with you about the F355 Berlinetta. I almost bought a F430 Coupe, but the difference in styling and price, to me, just didn't make sense. However, I do wish the F355 had cam timing "chains" like the F430, instead of "belts".

I gave serious thought to the CD route, too, but in the end I decided that the car was worth having the factory manuals. I believe he has another new set that is still on eBay.....
