How many of you have experienced failed OE exhaust manifolds? What were the symptoms? Whats involved in the repair? What's the repair bill? I can't figure out how to edit the poll but I wanted to add - Is your car 360 of F430? I've read a few threads of members reporting their original exhaust manifolds failing so here you go. Kindly share your experience please. Many thanks in advance. Dan
I didn't even know mine were cracked..went in for service and the tech told me they were cracked..depending on where you bought your car i recommend writing a letter to Ferrari north America.i bought from dealer and had documented record that they said there were no issues and ferrari paid for parts and half the labor..after they were repaired I believe they were cracked from the time I bought my car from the dealer as the car sounds different after repair (much better sound now) it would have been like 7k if repaired from dealer...if needed go somewhere else if you can..but not a matter of if but when they will fail in 430's Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
So far, no, but symptoms are a metallic ticking sound, possibly followed by a CEL. It's hard to hear it over the exhaust noise and sometimes easier to hear from the passenger compartment. It also depends on what is failing. Pre-cats are most often the culprit on 360s. 430s crack at welds unless you replace the mounts with the Capristo spring-loaded ones. Don't know why 360s don't have the same issue. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
My header was fine, but the stud that the header was bolted onto snapped off. I noticed the change in my exhaust note right away when I cold started the car. Exhaust leak is very obvious from inside the cabin. You will literally hear your exhaust note + "pft pft pft" for a good 10 sec until the head closes the crack. It sounds like someone is making puffing noises using their cheek on top of the exhaust note. I ended up getting aftermarket header while I was in there so I don't have to do the labor twice. Mine is a 430. The way the exhaust is mounted creates a lot of stress at the weak points. If the welds don't crack first then the header studs are likely to snap off. 2006 - 2008 F430 Spider, F1, Rosso Corsa Red, Tan interior, new clutch, upgraded headers and exhaust, max 30k miles. I've been looking the last 4 weeks. I found 2 great candidates and I plan on making an offer next week. Thanks for asking! Dan
430 here, no ticking sound but the white insulation under the heat shields was being pushed out and visable from underneath. Sure enough...cracked.
360 here... both of mine reported as cracked (complete with ticking noise) at around 12,000 miles - both replaced (using known good, used manifolds) Total cost just over £1000 including labour
430 with MkII manifolds. The exhaust bracket cracked which has likely reduced some pressure on the manifolds. I replaced both with Agency Power aftermarket ceramic coated headers.
Nothing yet (knock on wood), but my car only has 6k miles on it and so that might make a difference. So, I think I'm going to replace with Tubis in the future to avoid any potential issues later.
1999 Modena - 23K miles - still wearing original headers and mufflers. I have often wondered if changing to aftermarket mufflers that do not feature the 'slip joint' design of the the factory unit can lead to header failure. The Zuna Starker muffler can does have an expansion joint in the center that moves quite a bit when hot.
Hey Zanny1, I believe the 99s and European 360s did not have precats in the manifolds so you should be okay. Just keep an eye on them. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just replaced last week on 08 430 w/10K miles. Did a ton of research on options. Decided on Tubi due to the fact that they have integrated heat shields and don't radically change ex note. Also, no pre cat on TUBI. NO CEL's after 150 miles of HARD driving so not having pre cat is no issue so far. You are looking at 5-6K for FAB Speed, 6-8K for OEM (price increase 3 wks ago) and around 8k for Tubi. All prices are installed. I decided why replace with OEM's that have known defect when you can do Tubi? OEM's will fail again and the price is too steep to do this all over again. Sound is very robust with the TUBI's but not ridiculous. Tony at Tubi gave me a 10% discount for being a Fchat member ($750 bucks just for asking). I could hear a slight tick from failing OEM's at idle. Mechanic showed me the cracked header (one side bad) once removed, and he confirmed that all metal pieces in crack were accounted for. This is a big deal due to the possibility of your car aspirating metal shards from cracks or failed CAT into exhaust valve, causing major damage. Because of this I elected not to replace with OEM headers that have the same design flaw. Bonus, Tubi's are made of Inconel and fit and finish were spot on.
Lots of info on this subject. My OEM headers were cracked, both side. Replaced with AP manifolds, ceramic Coates at further expense, they were just awful, way to noisy, far to embarrassed using the car, took em off and sold them asap. Removed heat shields from OEM's Repaired the crack which is always at one particular weak spot which is not even close the pre-cat. Refitted with new gaskets, been on over a year, sound magical as Ferrari intended, no ticking, no problem. Pretty much zero cost. UK Owners know this is an easy fix, it's just a crack in a pipe at the 4 into 2 intersection, pre-cat is after the 4 into 2 and the 2 into 1 sections so not even close. It's an individual choice I've found over the years, new owners get scared, I did and it was a big mistake for me personally. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I knew they were prone to failure so while my car was under 3 year warranty I pushed my dealer to replace and they did. So technically they didn't fail. I'm on MKII now without issue. 23000 miles now, about 18000 plus on the second generation units.
Agreed, the OEM manifolds and exhaust sounds so good it's worth it for me to keep everything stock. I have the MK11 headers and so far so good.
07 430 OEM failed at 12K miles and installed MK2 headers under warranty. Replaced 2 sets of brackets before switching to Capristo brackets at 18K miles. Now have 31.5K miles on the car with MK2 at 19.5K miles and no issues.
