In 27 years of driving I've never had a wheel bearing go bad, but Ferrari ownership continues to demonstrate that there is a first time for everything.

If anyone experiences this kind of noise, be sure to have it checked out. Apparently it was in pretty bad shape:

The wheel didn't make much noise when until the car had been driven 5-10 minutes, but then it made the noise all the time, and it wasn't subtle. It didn't seem to affect steering or handling at all. It didn't make a dull roaring noise at 40mph as seems to be the expectation for bearing problems. When I jacked the car up I didn't feel any play in the wheel when shaking it.

    ~41k miles on the car.

I've had bearings that went bad with no other indication other than a faint ticking noise. Luckily wheel bearings are a easy fix.
