I am going to have a repaint on parts of my Modena which requires removal of Pininfarina logo, so I decided to buy new ones on ebay…. Here what I receive. After comparing with real ones, I realized that it is fake… Image Unavailable, Please Login
Where did the fake ones come from (which country?). Were they advertised as genuine? Do you have a link so we know who to avoid? Was there an obvious price variation between the real and fake product? Would you be able to post a real/fake comparison shot for reference? Note that genuine badges on other Ferraris do change from time to time. Is it fake or just a variation?
It came from ebay from a seller in France, not sure it was advertised as genuine, I assumed it was because it was not saying replica. I wrote the seller but don’t want to hurt him as he may not have known. Yes, I realized afterwards some prices much higher for claimed “genuine” ones. Below the one on my car and another seller claiming genuine (sold in bag labelled “genuine” with F logo, mine came in neutral bag). Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The originals are over £60 each if I recall maybe more now, You probably paid £20 for both on the bay? if so what did you expect?
For me if I had to replace them, I'd be OK with the "fake" ones. They look pretty good to me and at the low angle of view when mounted on the car I doubt anyone would scrutinize them enough to notice anything unusual without the OEM one to compare it to. To add I have added some small emblems that are not original or even a copy of a Ferrari original offering but for me add a nice touch of detail to my CF air boxes. The quality has been quite impressive. They have lived quite well and held up great -- even in the engine compartment with all that high heat. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Awesome I did this with all the copy E-Bay badges as well, they have also held up really well Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm still looking for one that will look like its OEM Ferrari so it matches the rest of the badges, I still want it to look like it just rolled out the factory
Do what I did. Visit your local fast food restaurant and take one off one of these! You will be sure they are original. https://pininfarina.it/en/work/coca-cola-freestyle/ Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
If it was significantly less than the list price on the normal parts houses, then yes you probably should have known it was like before you even ordered it. Having said that, it is also completely plausible that Ferrari has source different suppliers for many of their parts and I have definitely seen a variance over the years. I mean, it's been nearly two decades since these were first produced If it looks better than what was on there originally,, who cares slap it on
Over the years I have seen huge variations in original Pininfarina badges dated all the way back to the early 70's. It seems like there was no real specification on these and they change a lot from batch to batch. Maybe the one you ordered was a fake or maybe from a different supplier but genuine. Very difficult to be sure as even the ones Ferrari supply today are not necessarily from the same vendor as 20 years ago. Just some food for thought.
Yes you are right, price was low, I realized that later on while browsing on ebay, but I had another reason: I am actually the CEO of a company making software app for automatic detection of counterfeits… and we have technologies to authenticate plastic molded items, so I will use them. Anyway, I am skeptical that it is a variation between suppliers, the design is different as the material used. I just bought a few minutes ago the 2 remaining on ebay which look genuine I think:
