Fall get together?

After reading this thread, http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/texas/457800-houston.html#post143316509, I thought I would judge the interest for a "get together" once the weather start's cooling off. I live across the street from George Bush Park (worked there in '07) and I can/will reserve a spot that has bbq pits, playground for the kids and plenty of seating and parking. I think GBP is under utilized for meets/gatherings and it is free of hassle's.

 

It is a great venue that caters to everyone's needs. I was just thinking about putting something together for my Houston friends, all are welcome though, who have been so kind to me.

 

I agree but interest determines if it happens or not.

 

I understand brother. I guess a date should be suggested but knowing Texas weather I can only suggest an October or November event. Once we get into October it will be easier to suggest a date because I can view the 10 day forecast and the future forecast. It is not as easy setting up exotic meets than it was setting up JDM meets.

I appreciate your interest though.

 

We are getting closer to cooler weather!! I am thinking a Saturday would be best because I volunteer most Sundays.

 

It would probably have to be in the afternoon because the gates close at 7pm. I also may try to make this a donation drive for the 'Star of Hope Mission' since I am a volunteer and I will also be making a donation. I agree that a Saturday get together would probably be best for most everyone. The area I would like to reserve is the main park that has the bathrooms, playground for those who want to bring their children, large covered seating area with a BBQ pit and plenty of parking. I cannot find any goods pictures online but since I live just across the street I will go take pictures for those who are unfamiliar with the park but if you are familiar with the park you will know which area I am referring too.

I would love to be able to choose a day with clear blue skies and temps in the 70's. The only cost involved is a security deposit of $125 (which I will I will handle of course) and here is a link that may be helpful, http://www.pct3.hctx.net/parks/georgebush.aspx?Pavilions , and I am thinking about pavilion 3. P3 is identical to the picture in the link but is larger and has more amenities and a better view. Plus it has a parking area that is more focused on that particular pavilion.

I just spoke with the admin office and P3 is fully reserved until November which I think is fine. Having a early in the month meet so it does not interfere with anyone's Thanksgiving plans.

My only concern is only having access to a 10-day weather forecast and having this particular location reserved by someone else, but there is a bright side...there are plenty of other areas with large parking and close bathroom access yet they do not have covered pavilions. I have faith that everything will work out though.

Thinking more and more about it I do not think putting something on the grill would be the best idea. Spend a few hours enjoying the company and the cars and take a cruise and meet somewhere for lunch, let them worry about the dishes lol.

 

Isn't that event held on a Sunday? I could not find the exact date for this years event.

 

No need for two events in the same month.

On a serious note though I think a postponement may be in order. The Highland Village meet is also in November and considering it is the holiday season I now think it would best to wait until after the first of the year.
