Nissan GTR downtown today. Does that qualify as an exotic? I have never seen one and heard that they have awesome performance, but I have no idea how rare they are.

    You mean a Nissan GTR?

Actually I thought it was gorgeous. I thought to myself that would be a nice alternative. Looks, power and reliable.

I thought that too when I saw it at the car show, but on the street it looked very elegant. And that exhaust note is sweet.

GTR's are very nice cars. definitely not a style for everyone. performance is amazing though. spanks a lot of cars triple the price around the track all day long...

My girlfriend and I spend the day in downtown Chicago looking for wedding rings. On the way back we took 41 north instead of the tollway. Saw what I thought was a red F50 with the top off coming south near Lake Forest. Maybe it was a 360? I'm not sure.

I'm glad to see a Japanese manufacturer finally building a sports car again. For too long have they been putting out Detroit like cars. I loved the NSX and the Supra Turbo.

But from what you guys are saying it doesn't seem to be an exotic. So just like Beemers, Audis and Porsches, I won't be mentioning them in the spotters thread anymore.

    Congratulations!

Today on the Magnificent Mile: Beige R&R, silver metallic Maserati, looked great, wasn't the Quattroporte.

Hmmm... I wouldn't say "supercar." Supercar is (or at least should be) used to classify Enzos, MC12s, Carrera GTs, LP640s ect.

Uh, oh my friend, you just stepped onto a mine field: Everybody has a different definition of supercar. Today it is probably "capable of doing 200 mph". Dunno whether the GTR can do that or not.

Point in case: I found a British car mag, that actually called the 308 a supercar. I had to buy that and put it in my scrap book. Now I got proof. :) Although that is nuts, the 308 is no supercar.

    To add:

Personally, I believe the Enzo is the ultimate supercar. As for power...

    The Nissan

    Horsepower 480 hp @ 6400 rpm
    Torque 430 ft-lbs. @ 3200 rpm
Engine Type Twin Turbo 24V V6

    The Enzo

    Horsepower 660 hp @ 7800 rpm
    Torque 484 ft-lbs @ 5500 rpm
    Engine Type V12

That said, I do believe Nissan is going in the right direction. It is a serious competitor to the Porsche 911 in both looks and performance, but in my mind it is nowhere near a supercar.

You're 100% right, it's a personal opinion. I could be called a hypocrite for saying the Miura is a supercar. There is no true definition, just stating my case. :D

p.s. I do believe the GT-R can barely hit 200.

    Lets get back on track!

    Black V8 Vantage in Evanston.

That makes it a supercar in my book.

Regarding the Enzo: You realize that a F430 Scuderia beats an Enzo around Fiorano?

Yes and I believe the Scuderia IS a supercar. Everyone has different standards. My friend calls a Corvette Z06 a supercar. :)

you do realize that the GTR is right behind the Carrera GT and Pagani Zonda around the Ring right? And that it beat out the Porsche GT2, Koenigsegg, and SLR 722 GT. I believe it was Car and Driver that tested the GTR and said for the power, handling, and everything else you get in the car you should be paying upwards of 400,000 dollars. HP really doesnt mean EVERYTHING.

But, back on track. I saw a really crazy old Ferrari on Calumet avenue yesterday morning. Nothing I have ever seen before. Had a real long nose, short back, skinny front. It was weird I tried to catch up to it but got caught at the light.

Yea, I'm sure. Check out the Ring times. GTR is one second behind the CGT, way faster then the LP640, and no the Ferrari wasn't an F40, it almost looked like an old Fox body mustang but a little different. I'll see if I can post a pic later after a search.

Very impressive and I'm sure something the Viper would never achieve.

This discussion makes me realize that I haven't seen a Topgear show in a long time. I'm sure they had the GTR on it and it smoked everything and then Clarkson gets out, snears at the camera and says something like "It's still a rice bowl". :)

    GT-R?
    seen one in person?

looks like a 350Z that someone chewed up and puked out!

    great numbers... but yuck!

    back to our programming:
yesterday: Titanium / red F430 spyder on 41N, followed shortly by a black Lambo G sypder.
And I spotted myself in the 308 in the reflection of a building... I really should drive that darn thing more! what the heck is wrong with me?!?
