As per the title, I would appreciate knowing if anyone else experienced this issue?

What was the procedure/solution in taking the headliner shell out of the car to re-glue?
I ignore if it will come out without removing the windshield, as it may not take too kindly to being folded and out the door.

Please don't suggest the dealer, as we work quite well 'in-house'.
I just would appreciate if someone has the 'knowledge' :)

Delightful car, but with serious quality control issues with the interior cosmetics,
sticky stuff, falling mirror, headliner, rock hard carpets.

    I wonder, what's next?

    Regards, Alberto

The headliner can be easily fixed by any professional who installs/fixes interiors and leather. Nothing special, it happens to many cars/brands and it usually happens on cars left too long out on the sun. They usually use a 3M adhesive.

The falling mirror is another indicator of a badly used car, left out on the sun or when the interior becomes too hot. Over the years (yours a 2004 car as you mention) the adhesive dries up and the mirror falls down. Nothing serious, any professional you installs windshields will be able to give you the proper adhesive to stick the mirror back to the windshield.

The sticky plastics are a common problem with many manufacturers (Audi, etc). In this case, the sticky plastics appear for various reasons, mainly if the car is left under the sun for too long, but also when car cleaners use chemicals to clean your car at your local car wash. Eventually, the top varnish will... vanish.

It may sound like an easy problem to fix but it is not. The buttons on the console (aircon, LCD screen etc) do not come on their own as spare parts, but you have to buy the device they control, which means the replacement cost comes out to thousands.

Have you ever been to the UAE? This problem appears in just about all the cars of all brands after even 3 years from new. There is a specialised company in Dubai, which fixes this problem.

Recently, we found a company in the USA which does the same job and the result is identical to original, quite impressive really. The buttons with illumination are not black as you would expect, but translucent, thus they are painted black and then a laser removes the paint in order to make the design of the button graphic. Thus, the buttons can be illuminated from behind and appear completely original.

You will also hear about another solution of a company called stickynomore, these guys use regular stickers as the emblems.

The 4200 Coupe is a really nice car with very few problems. The issues that you mention are just typical for many cars and caused by use over the years.

Thank you for the comments, and absolutely correct on all points. Here, it is sunny every day of the year, and even though the car is always indoors when not in use, they all have the same issues.
Can you provide a link to the company in the USA that does the laser bit?

    Regards, Alberto
