Does anyone have any experience with any tour companies doing family tours? We've got two kids around the age of 10 and are looking to do a vacation next year and wondering if a tour might be a good option. Seem to be alot of companies out there all doing pretty much the same tours, but I can't find many first hand reviews for most of them.

Particularly I'm curious how much you are on your own vs with a guide. In the past when traveling to non-English speaking countries I've found getting meals to be particularly stressful and was surprised to see that most of the tours don't include alot of the meals (particularly dinners).

Some of the companies I've looked into were: National Geographic (who seem to outsource their tours to G Adventures), Tauck, and Adventures by Disney.

I would recommend the Tauck Bridges tours, they are made for family with kids. We've done Alaska, Galapagos, and Tanzania with them as we have 4 children. When we used Tauck, the kids were 12-18 and they loved it! Every tour had kids of their ages and the best thing about Tauck is everything is taken care of for you. Once you land at the destination, you do nothing, absolutely nothing. They take your luggage from hotel to hotel into your room, all meals are arranged for you and they can handle any allergy gluten, soy etc...

They also have many perks that are not described on their website or pamphlets but believe me you will not be disappointed. You will guided parts of the tour plus free time to wander on your own and the kids usually end up hangin together so most parents will be free to be adults with other couples too.

You can PM me if you have any questions, btw I live nearby in Moorestown.

If Africa is of interest, use Micato.

We ended up doing a Tauck Bridges River Cruise in France on @Xrayv8 's recommendation and had a blast. The tour company did an amazing job with the whole trip. They had alot of great activities for the kids and when some things went wrong (Tour bus broke down) they did a great job scrambling to come up with a good solution. We'll certainly be going on a another trip with them in the future.
