On my 328 GTS the drivers side fan light does not come on even though the fan turns on. I have just replaced the bulbs in the instrument panel and still no luck.
Any clues? Is there anywhere that I could measure a voltage and see if the fault is somewhere else other that the bulb (which is working).
    Thanks

Swap the two fan speed control ECUs -- items 31 in this figure (if the wires are long enough no need to physcially swap them, just swap the mating connectors):

    http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partTable.asp?M=1&Mo=664&A=2&B=38990&S=

If the problem moves to the other side, that fan speed control ECU is bad; if the problem stays on the same side, most likely a connection fault in the instrument panel connectors 125 and/or 126 (as they are labeled in the 328 wiring diagram book).

You can get a copy of the US 1989 328 wiring diagram book here (which should be the same in this area as your CH version 328):

    see Fig 8.
