Hey, I was going to bury this in the FF thread, but thought it deserved it's own. While we all know that Yahoo's (and others) "projections" aren't terribly accurate I was stunned to notice that last weeks matchup between Bounty & Big Hammer had Tyler Palko projected to get 15 points and Jay Cutler 0 [None, nada! - They actually scored 6 & 15 respectively.] Got me thinking though - Does anyone know where these #'s come from? Given the above I *suspect* it's some kind of "popularity contest" (similar to Google) - The more folks that pick up and use a player, the more he's projected to make? Everyone dropping Cassel & picking up Palko skews the #'s in his favor? What about Cutler and zero? I don't think I've seen that before unless the guy was "out". [Poor Jay doesn't get any love it seems!] Cheers, Ian Here's the game score; http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/12149/matchup?week=11&mid1=4&mid2=9
I didn't see where Cutler was projected to zero, I was 15.8 on my screen. But since you mentioned it, the one thing that bugs me on all the different lists of players is seeing guys still rated high but are on I/R, they should be on the bottom of the list altogether.
Image below captured from the above link...... Makes no sense to me, but there it is! +1 Although, at least at Yahoo, they are "marked" with a little "O"ut or "IR". I guess their #'s are still valid, even if they're not gonna get any more...... Cheers, Ian Image Unavailable, Please Login
When the game started, Cutler had higher projected points, I don't remember how many, but pretty normal kind of number. He broke his thumb near the end of the game, and I noticed the projected number went to 0. Haven't seen that happen before during the game when a player gets knocked out. ronr (Big Hammer)
+1 I just "scan" what everyone else is up to but would have noticed a QB projected at zero. Exactly!..... Very interesting!..... WTF is going on here? I mean, their projected #'s are just that - You get hurt, I would expect that # to stay the same for at least that matchup. Unless, and this is a complete WAG - As soon as he got hurt "millions" of players around the world immediately started dropping him and hence his #'s started into free fall? I don't get why Palko was projected so high, unless it's the same kind of thing - Lots of folks picking him up = Increased projection? Cheers, Ian
"The plot thickens!" ....... It appears that Kevin Smith has been knocked out of the game. As of now, his projected #'s remain the same though...... Watching with great interest.... Cheers, Ian
I don't think you can 'drop' a player until after the weeks' games are all done (after Monday night). Palko was projected so high because NE's Defense is rated LAST in the league, 15 points is only 200 yards and 3 TD's, should not have been THAT hard to get, but what they don't project is NE's defense is getting better as a whole - but losing a zillion guys in the secondary, while KC - the team as a whole - seems to be losing a starter every week. Hindsight is perfect, but if it was me I would have considered Palko is a green rookie, playing on the road, without their best RB and TE, and losing some key defensive people, I think I would have projected about 11 points at best, two TD's, 175 yards, but also throwing 2-3 interceptions. Palko~Painter - I don't see much of a difference.
+1 So Jay's #'s going from ~15 to zero remains a mystery..... Indeed. I *guess* many things are taken into account when "they" (their computers?) come up with projections - I'd just really like to know how it's done. Cheers, Ian
