Greece being a country with abundant blue skies, beautiful coastlines (upon which scantily clad European bathers can be seen), it make sense that there were some Ferraris there. This very sad story dating back two years from a British newspaper talks about the country's only Ferrari dealership closing sometime back.

Greece's only Ferrari dealership has had no sales for nearly two years | World news | The Guardian

If I was a young man with a Greek translator available and customs & airlines connections I would be on my way there now as we speak, instruments of cash in hand, ready to buy out the old customer's cars left in the dealership when they closed their doors.

Not that I would take advantage of a country on the rocks but....

I wouldn't want to be driving a Ferrari around in Greece right now. They are looking to blame anyone but themselves for their problems. I watched a Canadian news crew get confronted aggressively as they thought they were German at first.

Why does Greece merit so much news coverage?

I'm not sure about the economics, but a significant part of Greece's problems is that the kind of people who can afford Ferraris were able to avoid paying taxes they justifiably owed . If there's a fallout, it will take a while, IMO, before long owned F-cars are on the market.

First real test of the Eurozone single currency "experiment"... and there are some frayed nerves around Germany dictating economic policy to Greece for the first time since the 1940s.

Sounds like everything is simply "stop gap" measures. Seems like refunding and recapitalizing a country that refuses to control spending is a losing proposition. Of course I'm aware that we don't behave much if any better when it comes to spending.

Greece is the canary in the Euro coal mine, and will set the precedent for when other countries default. This, IMO, is why the EU is being so tough on Greece. Its size means it could]/i] be bailed out completely without that much pain.

But what the EU simply could never afford to do is is bail out Spain or Italy. Greece being treated harshly is more a message to them to get their own houses in order.
