I will be deleting my FerrariChat account within the next day or two. After a lot of thinking, I have decided what my priorities are and came to the conclusion that I really need to get a move on with my life. It's been a fun ride, and I thank all of you for some outstanding friendships and memories as well as all the helpful advice I have received from many of you, but this is my stop and I have to get off. Good luck and best wishes to all of you.

    All the best,

    -G.B.

G.B...........I don't understand, what's the relation of moving on with your life and FChat. FChat is like reading a magazine, it shouldn't hinder you from moving on with your life and it should not be considered as a priority in your life.

I don't get any of these I am leaving threads lately. F-chat is not like smoking or drinking. You can live a long and happy life while still reading and posting on F-chat. If you think you are spending to much time here, then just stop spending so much time here. I don't see announcing your departure as being such a drastic life changing event.

FB is one thing, FChat is entirely another. I think you would be losing out on an incredible wealth of knowledge and resources by walking away from FChat - not just info on Ferraris but the world at large. What I gain from being here far offsets any time or financial considerations.

In short - this would be a bad move on your part.

I know what you are saying completely. However, IMO you are only partly correct on the smoking/drinking comparison and this is the point of what these threads are about - fchat is actually addictive for some to the point that it is interfering with their lives.

You must be right. I guess I just don't get something like a forum being as addictive as my examples. Then again, without my cable TV I would probably have a seizure. :D

Once the decision is made then move on and all the the best. Myself I can sometimes go months without getting on the site and then other times I'm on it 3 -4 times a week, hopefully that means I'm keeping it in perspective and ballancing it along with everything else in life, only time will tell.

I read these kind of posts and find them a bit curious. I have been a member since 2002. Learned a great deal from folks here. Had some uncomfortable confrontations as well. But, come and go as you like. I haven't been active for a year or two. Just signed up again and plan to check the site a couple of times each week. It doesn't need to be addictive, just set some borders and don't take it too seriously. JMO

Perhaps as a part of a general internet addiction, I could see it happening.

I think I'm a pretty high-rate poster, but do compartmentalise my time and shut down FChat when I need to get stuff done. When I start hitting a bit of a wall with work, I often like to click through Ferrari pics to de-stress, or browse the more irreverent threads for a quick giggle before getting back to it. The P&R section is also pretty good for keeping on the pulse of hot topics and there are often insightful analyses in there.

I also find a great many people on here inspiring. Difficulties at work don't put me off trying to get through them as I'm pretty determined to finish things I start. However, it can occasionally be hit or miss for keeping a good mood while I battle away at it and encouragement from those who have been through it before and emerged happily at the other end is a great help for that. In that very real way, the FChat community is an assist for me rather than an interference.

I guess it depends on the type of use. If you're a heavy user that simply chooses to spend your break times (which would otherwise be spent relaxing/recharging in other ways) on FChat then it's fine. If you're a heavy user that defers doing important things in life (work?) in order to surf FChat a bit more then it's a problem - probably no different to suffering other internet additions. With so many users on here, there are bound to be a couple like that.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Given the right environment, circumstances and personality one could probably become addicted to counting grains of sand on the beach.

There could be a valid reason for announcing one's pending, voluntary departure from a message board: to avoid people speculating "What ever happened to ... he just disappeared."

Perhaps the OP developed some online acquaintances here, and he just wanted to let them know that he's walking away with his head up, not being buried six feet under after a sudden, massive coronary.

I understand you dude. Sometimes you just gotta cut everything loose for a while and get out and do whatever it is that you want to do. Hopefully I'll see you around in the future when we're Ferrari owners.:) Good luck with your future plans bro.

I can see why some folks would "announce" their departure- not so much as a feel sorry for me deal but sorta say goodbye to these mini relationships some of us have formed online.

I don't get on often enough to be missed but in some other forums - if a person dropped off without as much as an "FU". I would be curious. In a way, I don't think it has as much to do with all the conjecture posted previously but more as a courtesy that is appreciated by the folks who it relates to.

You know the whole deal with opinions-

I believe that this has nothing to do with FChat as a forum or internet addiction, it seems more like he has to put other priorities in his life than cars and in particular Ferraris or the purchase of a Ferrari. It could be everything from family matters to concentrating on a new business or further education, and we all know how much time does the establishment of a new business swallow in the first years ;)

Anyways, whatever it is, I wish you good luck with it, have fun and patience :)
BUT, keep on dreaming and striving, that is what keeps us alive . . .

    G,

You sure? I hope you will reconsider.

G, I know you've had a bad week. I noticed something when I was your age. Sometimes when the guys at school were being jerks, the neighborhood kids were okay to hang out with more. And vice versa.

Then sometimes both groups were jerks and there was no one to hang with. Now in this era of the internet there's another group for support. We're friends or at least acquaintances here, and I had hoped you might lean on us a bit while some of those around you were being jerks.

Finally, there's a lot of strange stuff that goes on with people your age. It's okay to be alone sometimes-for me it was a lot of the time when I was growing up.

Your value is not determined by the kids in school. It is determined by your abilities and your integrity, and some other stuff, that I don't have time to think about ;)

But at your age, it's how "cool" your musical choices are, etc. Don't listen to those idiots.

At your age I thought those kids around me were the most important. Not my family. And I had it exactly wrong, and opposite.

It's not just F-Chat. I'm deleting my facebook as well. It's become the only thing I do now; I'm embarrassed with how much time I spend on these sites and I can't quite seem to limit myself; so this would be the next best thing. I never thought I could get addicted to a website, but it's true...it can happen. I don't know how to limit myself which is why I have chosen to get rid of it completely.

Deleting my Facebook was one of the best things I ever did. Not to be a curmudgeon or a Facebook hater, but I think that a lot of modern day internet interaction is a slightly disguised attempt at attention-getting. No real useful information is exchanged.

In that respect I completely understand your need to get rid of FChat. I do value a lot of things on this website and believe that there is a lot of good information on here. Despite that, I've drifted towards lurking in the past couple of years because my automotive priorities have changed a bit, but there are still a few things I check on regularly (Jim's stuff and photos).

But would my life be worse off if I didn't have FChat? I don't think so. And so if yours is better off without it, then by all means, delete your account and don't look back.

    Cheers.

    Maybe its a generational thing.

I tried FB but it doesn't do a thing for me. I've deleted most of my content and have no reason to ever check it.

I only signed up because a local car function (cars&coffee) seemed organized around it.

I was getting consumed by P&R and even the banter in Silver Subscribed....so I let my subscription expire...stick to the "car" stuff for the most part now...found that my desire for posting, and getting into battles, dropped off dramatically.

Do miss "Funny Pictures" thread though.......some classics in there...

    :)
