How do you guys/ladies react when youre in your car and little hondas with their fart can exhaust come up to you and try to race you??? What goes through your mind??
Do you race them? or are you too good for them...Or do you have nothing to prove??
What about when cars like Dodge SRT-4 or Mitsubishi Evolution try to race you?? Same??

Hmm, let me guess what you drive.

Why wander over here and try to stir the pot?

EDIT: BTW, street hooliganism does not belong in the racing forum.

Racing is for the track and not the street. I don't care what marquee car you're driving, let them go.

Well I'm not sure if many know that due to many innocent bystanders being killed, street racing in California is being persecuted to the N-th degree. If you'd taken off from that light with him (assuming this was a situation and you were in California) according to California law both of your cars could have, and probably would have, been confiscated for street racing.

Let me say that again. CONFISCATED. As in, you don't get it back. It becomes immediate property of the State. No compensation. You loose.

And you don't have to have two people to be breaking the law. A couple of years ago they included "single car racing" as a clause. I'm assuming this is to help prosecute individuals flogging their cars on the twisty mountain roads around L.A. and other places. Oh, and they can take your car over that infraction as well.

Keep it safe and keep it sane.

Racing and public streets don't mix very well and I don't think you'll find many ferrari owners willing to do it.

That said, depending on my mood I give them anything from a "you've got to be kidding" look to a launch to the speed limit or there abouts (+5-10mph maybe), that's as far as I'll go on the street. The particular model they are driving has nothing to do with it. Generally I find they are quite happy just to hear the engine rev once or twice...I've got a blower on it and it makes quite roar.

I probably shouldn't post this - it is undeniably juvenile and wrong in so many ways - but the topic brought up an old memory.

One night, back when I was in college, a friend and I were out celebrating. He was a very large human being (think defensive tackle) and it was pretty rare that he was too far gone to drive. This was, in large part, because he absolutely loved his car - a '69 Mach 1 Mustang, with a 351 Cleveland motor - and absolutely hated for anyone else to drive it.

Anyway, he'd had a few and we were riding home - nice and slow - when a ricer pulls up next to us. Naturally, he's blaring some techno crap music and revving his car, lurching it forward toward the light, and trying to goad us to race.

When the light goes green, ricer boy launches and races to the next stoplight about 1/8 mile ahead, where he proceeds to wait for us.

We catch up a bit down the road, and he rolls down the window and says a few unpleasant things about me and the car in an effort to get us to go.

No dice. Ricer roars off, and we just loaf behind

The next stoplight looks to be pretty much the same, but with new insults. As the ricer begins to gloat about his victory over the "slow-ass P.O.S. Mustang" my friend throws open his door, walks up to their car, and proceeds to urinate on the ricer's hood.

...it's one way of dealing with ricers who want to race.

Basically, ricers are a combination of tacky modified cars and equally annoying drivers.
Here's an example of what to look out for:

No street racing in the F car, ever!!

However, most "ricers" slink away with their tails between their legs when they pull up and see me in my "other car".

Definition of Ricer: Japanese made, four cylinder front wheel drive car modified with no real gain on performance other than excessively loud exhaust that sounds like sh*t. Crappy body kits that dont fit well are also a common feature. Owners have a complex that they are race car drivers because they illegally drag race down city streets.

Racing is for the track. It can be frustrating, because the don't give up. They continue to follow and egg on a race.

You have to ignore the idiots. When you have a lot to lose, why risk losing everything you've worked so hard for?? It really is that simple.

One note of warning - can also be a Japanese wannabe like the Ford Focus or Dodge Neon (as pictured above by TopElement).

That's where top down cars come in handy. They hear you "talking to yourself": "This is a street, not a track. I know that, because I've done enough laps on a track to know the difference ... and enough that *I* don't have anything to prove."

If you say this looking at them, they take it as an insult. If you say this while *not* looking at them, then you're talking to yourself, and you're a nut they want to stay away from. ;)

    They usually take the hint.

Especially if you can add, "Besides, my winter beater is an EVO." :D

But lest Ferrari owner feel themselves uniquely put upon, I've also noticed getting undue "race attempts" against the EVO by klunkers like an OZ-rally (non turbo FWD) version of the Lancer or other wheezing FWD boxes.

It's funny, because none of them would think of "trying it on" against the Ferrari. But, in all honesty, while the 328 is a far more elegant solution, a lot more fun to drive, and far tidier in corners, the EVO is certainly quicker in a straight line dash.

Anyone else find it depressing to see how painfully ignorant the public is becoming in "the information age"?

If you can keep your sense of humor, though, usually the most effective answer to race attempts is to simply break out laughing.

I usually try to remember the time that a rusty AMC Gremlin tried to race the Alfa GTV-6. I just rolled my eyes and ignored him -- I didn't break out laughing ....

... until half a block later when I saw him at the side of the road with steam billowing from under his hood.

I think of a ricer as anyone who believes their car is better than it actually is. Doesn't matter what the badge in front says, there is a group of them in every community.

Ricers rev at me, the 6" numbers on the doors and the loud exhaust must be some secret code in riceonics that says "rev him he wants to race." They all seem to look fearful when I invite them to the next autox, then they blast off while I drive along like grandpa.

Well really my definition above was meant to be a joke, but that name "ricer" actually came about from shortening the term "rice rocket" referring to the front drive, import cars from Japan.

you guys have definetly made some very good points about street racing and endangering everyones lives. But at the same time dont be fake, i have seen ferrari owners try to down it on me, or viper owners that like to tailgate me and prove to me that their car is soooo fast. Ive seen movies like mischef, i know that some people on here love driving fast, and dont care where its at. There is also places to go like in the nite on empty roads, highways etc. So dont tell me that you NEVER street race. Im sure there are some of you that dont, but i bet some of you also do. I dont like ricers either...to me a ricer would be something like this... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/100126 or http://www.cardomain.com/ride/568661 .....

but cars like this are not rice.... http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...&q=evo+vs+lambo hmm i think it explains itself...
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6023510595639884890&q=ferrari as you can see the porsche won, but he also has 420hp, compared to the stock skylines 276, and the evos 260ish. and he pulled what a couple cars on the straight, but who was handling better??? Oh and where was the almighty ferrari? dont say it was because he started in the back, the porsche started dead last...
and they can also be straight line fast... http://media.ams-evo8.com/AMS961.wmv

oh and plz dont tell me you think that Kenne Bell Cobras are slow either, here is an example of one, but its also getting walked by what??? an import (the cars that can never be fast no matter what you do) or uhh, the "winter" beaters haha. http://baycityrides.com/media/evocobras.wmv
how about a vid. of a ferrari 360spider vs. ummm hmm, evo??? okay u got it!!! thanks for asking!

"Ricing" is a lifestyle more so than just a type of car or style. Some kid who's proud of all the work he put into a base Civic or whatever should be proud. But regardless of what you drive, if you're into harassing other drivers and challenging guys to race all the time, whether you drive a Neon a Lambo or dad's Torino wagon, then you're probably a ricer on the inside.
