A few weeks ago I got a telephone call from Fast Cars, Ltd. in Redondo Beach California. Always a good customer and so easy to work with, I expected it might be a call for an F1 component, or window motors, or something kind of "normal". Not this call.

Craig and Bernie were interested in a new, fully unlocked, and 'packed to the gills' SD3 diagnostic computer. As Craig explained it, there are so many new customers with F430's, 599's, etc, that he needed to ensure those folks received fast, and thorough service with a minimum of diagnostic 'guess work'. Fast Cars, Ltd. has a huge customer base, and although I haven't visited their shop (yet!), I can imagine they move so many cars because their customers are accustomed to a high level of service.

Unfortunately, when the SD3 arrived here from Italy there was a glitch. It only had 2 cars worth of data loaded, instead of all the Ferrari and Maserati ones I'd promised. :( So, we quickly FedEx'd the machine back to Italy where we expected a quick turnaround with new software. Sadly, it became day-after-day-after-day of waiting. Between memory upgrades, new software, and shipping snafus, it took far too long to get the darn thing corrected. With each call from Fast Cars, I worried Craig would finally tell me to 'bugger off' and refund his money. (Frankly, I would have done it in a heartbeat -- I was losing probably more sleep than him over this issue!) The truth however was so different, and I learned an important lesson about really good customers: they are understanding, they are patient, and above all, there is a relationship which can transcend one bumpy transaction.

Finally, my supplier of the SD3, who is an absolute hero, and another good friend in Maranello finally got everything loaded and working. FedEx brought it to me today, Mike and I tested it out to confirm the software load, and then repacked it for overnight shipping to Redondo Beach. On Monday morning, Fast Cars, Ltd. will be ready to attack the F430's, Scuds, 599, Granturismo, etc with unparalleled speed and precision.

and yes, as the picture suggests I have an extra one here on my shelf too... but I have a feeling a customer in the Middle East is about to take it. Leadtime on new ones? 60 days. Status? Unlocked. Price? Call.

    Daniel,

Thankyou for your kind words, and for going above and beyond to make the purchase of the machine happen.

Bring me down to sunny Florida, and we can play with it for a few days. :) I'm tired of the rain and cold in Winston Salem.

Daniel- 70 degs here in Albuquerque and 300 miles of visibility. Would give a lot to get one for my local technicians.

Too bad the yellow tach face did work. I was really disappointed. How much is a Superamerica instrument cluster with yellow tach?
