I've fallen in love with Popeye's chicken.... their side choices suck... still prefer the KFC sides... but the Popeye's chicken is just SO DANG GOOD!!! Not nearly as greasy.... and the taste, to me, is SO MUCH BETTER!!! But given the choices, what is yours? (If you've not had Popeye's, why bother to vote, I mean really??? ) Obviously, fried chicken is: a) bad for you b) better in a cafe in the South I'm fully aware of that. I KNOW where to get really GOOD fried chicken in Georgia or Mississippi. And no, I don't eat it often. And NO I did not offer a "I don't eat animals" poll option, or "I don't eat fried foods" option, or "what is YOUR blood pressure?" option, etc. etc. etc.... it's really a simple question. If you don't do EITHER, no comment or vote is necessary. Good grief - the disclaimers one must add these days!! So given the TWO choices... what's your fave? KFC or Popeye's? Jedi
I voted KFC, mainly because I haven't had Popeyes in years. I also like Church's Chicken, some other places that are local.
Popeyes hands down. This is no contest. The folks who think KFC is in the same ballpark or god forbid better than Popeyes must not have had Popeyes or have a particularly crappy Popeyes location near them. And the popeyes sides suck? Are you kidding? I make meal on the sides alone. Red beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, dirty rice, the biscuits. . . man. Just the biscuits by themselves are enough to beat any of the competition. Okay, the fries are hit and miss if they're fresh or not (people don't order them since the other sides are so good). Don't think you can judge popeyes either if you only order the mild chicken either, for those of you weenies who can't handle spicy. I have heard that the Popeyes locations outside of Louisiana are not the same. . . and if that's true then I might understand y'alls misguided beliefs. But down here, I don't understand how the couple of KFC's stay in business as I never see anyone there.
Pioneer still exists - with the original recipe even. Had some not long ago and, though it's exactly how I remembered it, Popeyes is MUCH better. Don't now why I was so hung up on Pioneer. Probably a combination of childhood nostalgia and its status as "unobtainable." Original recipe Pioneer Chicken still served here!
The one we used to go to closed a long time ago. It was a lot better than KFC. Anything would be I suppose. Amber's was another good one that didn't make it.
We are "neck and neck" so to speak... youngin's won't have any idea what a chicken neck even is. So I'll leave it at that. Jedi
Amber's was pretty good, though it was supposeldy "broasted," not fried. Yeah, whatever. One of my best friends used to work at Amber's as a teenager. Hope you weren't eating at the Encino location back in the late 80s/early 90s! Oh the stories he tells.
Well, yeah it was.... Better than that was the Donut Inn next door, where Al Lewis (Grandpa Munster) would be every morning, sitting in the corner!
Popeyes Chicken is the best of ANY I have had including the Mom and Pops. The sides are to die for. While my wife and son cant get enough of the biscuits apparently I lack the bakery appreciation gene. Next time we're in Louisiana I'm going to make a point of trying "Louisiana" Popeyes to see if there is a difference. 7 votes KFC 7 votes Popeyes so far ? Something is wrong.
I think if I ate fried chicken I would puke. But when I did, Popeye's hands down. Spicy was the best!
Yes!! I have rarely had fried chicken from a mom and pop place that could hold a candle to Popeyes. Also watch out those red beans might actually kill you with the amount of calories and sodium in them I'm fairly certain all of the Popeyes locations use the same recipes and even the same supplier for their spices and ingredients, but I have heard people say there is a difference in the out-of-town locations. Might be a crock, but who knows.
Speaking of fried chicken....are they the only commercials that no one gets upset about the stereotypes? lol
Oddly enough, Roy Rogers made some great fried chicken. However, they're almost extinct around here. So I prefer KFC extra crispy with the potato wedges
