Really nasty weather. That will take the paint off and polish the engine.

The way the wing was moving up and down while the aircraft was still accelerating gave a clue as to what was happening; also the seemingly constant dust cloud throughout the video. In a small airplane like a CRJ that would have been quite a ride!

I watched it on You Tube and it was marvelous to see the dynamics displayed by what could be called a living wing. Few of us could realize the vast number of forces working on the wing as it engages them. The structures guys had to figure on lift, local load reversal, shear, and how to damp all that is going on. The fluid power people and aero guys worked out how to make quick and effective controls to stabilize the airplane and you can see it all working together . Beautiful video.

Did the aircraft take of into, or through, a haboob?

I had never heard of the word "haboob" until experiencing one while on vacation in Phoenix. Watching it roll towards us was amazing. The day in the video was just blowing dust.

WE called them dust storms in Albuquerque until a foreign exchange student from Australia told us it was a 'Haboob'.

They were unbelievable. Blotted out the sun. Usually happened in March.
