The fastest I´ve driven is 270 km/h in a tuned BMW M3 Saloon from 1996. The fastest I´ve been as a passenger is slightly over 300 km/h in a BMW Alpina B8 4,6. That is according to the speedo which means around 285 km/h in real speed.

143 on my old bike in shorts and T-shirt, still in 5th gear, had about 10mph more but ran out of road.

150 on my new bike with plenty left (20mph+), but ran out of road & nerve.

At that speed, sitting up to slow down (your body is an air brake), it takes a death grip on the bars to keep from literally blowing off the bike. Loose-fitting leather flaps against your body like a nylon flag blowing in a strong breeze.

You are unable to focus on anything other than the the horizon, dashed yellow lines become a blur, telephone poles are on the horizon, then 100 yards away, then past you almost in stop-motion. Most people's brains are not capable of processing individual objects at that relative velocity. These speeds were on the same stretch of two-lane country road, not interstate.

After that, heading home at 80 on the interstate feels so slow it almost feels like you could just hop off and run alongside.

I found my limit, and doubt that I would ever try to go faster (or that fast again). In fact, thinking of $5000 in fines if you get caught, or instant death in the case of a mistake makes it completely unappealing. I'm thinking about selling all of them to finance the first Ferrari.

During an impromptu race, a 355 and I took it up to around 140mph or so. It was a great rush! The road was was a four mile straight shot that was paved months earlier. It was smooth, flat, seamless asphalt and as close to autobahn material as you can get. It allowed the car to stay glued to the road as the wind pushed the car down, I'll never forget that feeling! The bad part was that it was indeed a public road (oooops!).
I think about the "what ifs" now.. not a good move to go that fast on a public road. A car could have turned out in front of us or some other instance that could have caused a bad day. The dice rolled a win that day for everybody. It's a learning experience. All future racing is performed at the track when the opportunity presents itself.

Well, my first time over 200 was in the old pantera @ 203
I have been shotgun over 220 in a Vector W8 in Florida (owned by a certain tennis star)
I have done 215 as a driver and 260 as a passenger in a turbine powered Ultima for a sequence for a spec commercial for the AOL net accellerator. Car which is capable of 320+ mph. 2000hp at ear bleeding decibles with helmet and ear plugs and cost to build just under 300k.

Just recently my dad and I were taking the Vette pace car out on the 10 to Palm Springs and we hit 190 really easily. Jordan I think noted the chipped paint on the front end last time out to Crystal Cove, or was that 007... ?

My Volvo p1800 is capable of 185, but I have only gotten it to 170, and the Ducati, well it redlines at 160, damed track bikes.

Under my own power in a velodrome at Domingues Hills I reached 117 on a Bursford Ultimate (designed by Lola) but that is cheating since wind resistance is so minimal.

135 MPH in my mildy modified SAAB Turbo racing a Pontiac Grand AM turbo from Homer to Anchorage.

150 while riding in a friend's Trans Am (Borla exhaust, odd cam, no cats = LOUD at 150).

    160 on a friend's CBR 900 RR. Pure puckerville.

2898 billion MPH in the 67 Vette convertible that belonged to my boss. He bought it new, and modified it in small ways over the years. It would bounce on its springs with each exhaust pulse. He always wore a beanie cap and smoked a Don Pepe whilst driving it. He was the coolest boss ever!

The car never reached those speeds, but he drove it fast enough to make you think it could.

Speed is relative, some cars are better at lower speeds, like an XK120 at 100mph, than say a 360 at 180.

Open wheel too makes a car feel so fast.

I know what your saying like on long highway runs and you finnaly start slowing down and you get down to what you think is a speed close to the speed limit and you look at the speedo and your still doing like 90.

    Testshootcom,

Tell me some about this turbine Ultima. I have been involved in some very high hp machinery in my day and this fascinates me. I have done plenty of drag racing with hipo cars and been involved in Eddie Hills Top fuel car that was the first car in the 4's. His car produced over 5000 hp and his top speed personal record was a shade over 325 mph in the quarter. How much room do you think you would have needed to reach 320 in the Ultima?

I have hit 168 mph in the quarter and this is plenty fast for a 96 inch wheelbase car. Just curious about this particular car..........

What Pantera did 203? Big speedometer error
An honest 220 in a Vector? Big speedometer error
Vette's don't hit 190 really easily, again factor in big speedometer error.
What the hell engine is in a Volvo P1800 to get it over 125?
Let's see a photo of the turbine Ultima. 320! Won't happen.
117 at Domingues? Under your own power, what does that mean, were you pedaling?
