my father backed into my red '88 328 with 24k miles on it today...oops... dented the drivers side door and a little on the panel above the tire... nothing major, but noticable.

do i need a specialist/ferrari body shop to fix this or can i fix it locally with a friend/body shop owner who's been in business 30+ years? will it affect the value?? is this type thing reported to carfax??

is it a good time to paint the entire car?? it's otherwise in excellent shape. Hoping to fix it right with minimal embarassment to dad, so hopefully it won't be much of an issue since it's minimal damage.

it's a little bit of a bummer, what what can I say... I feel more badly for my dad on Father's Day. Your input is appreciated... thanks

Nothing that difficult about repairing a Ferrari other than it takes longer due to hand fitting but any high end shop can paint them that does BMWs Porsches etc., just have them repair the door a good shop can color match it perfectly, I'd say 90% of Ferraris have been touched up anyway your car probably having had it done before as well so I wouldn't repaint the car just for this, save it till it really needs it as more paint will require a strip job eventually if you get too many layers on it.

A good body shop should be able to repair the damage. There's no need to go to a specialist unless you just feel the need to do so.

It will only show up on carfax if it's reported to them, or if a police report/insurance claim is made. If you're just paying out of pocket, there's no issue.

From what I've seen, many of the 80s Ferraris already have body/paint repairs

same thing happened to us a few weeks back... kind if bonded us better actually. He said I didn't understand how he felt... then I reminded him when I wrecked his 911 when i was 17. I know how he felt... bad feeling to bump your buddy's car... could be worse though

i assume a PPI or dealer will run some kind of tool over the car to see if there has been work done to it. Will that matter? thanks

you might have to get a good match....when I was searching..I found 308's with up to 4 diff. shades of red on them...be very careful since different paint acts differently under different light conditions...something that looks good in the sunlight, in the garagre will look orange or even pink, etc...

You can tell where I had a fender touched up if you look very carefully; the new paint lacks the orange peel of the original. But if you're not looking, you don't notice.
