Just trying to isolate the root cause of the problem (speedometer/odometer not working) based on the speedometer sender observables (center metal lead not connected to sender). Thanks.

I do not know much about this specific sender, but it seems the metal pin should be attached/secured to the sender, not just simply slipped into the gearbox output.

As there is a coil pickup, the rotating pin should be properly aligned in order to generate sufficient magnetic field next to the coil. A free floating pin is not going to deliver such a consistent signal.

Based on my own experience with the veglia angle drive (~same era), I presume there should be some kind of internal bushing/bearing which is now so worn out that it does not hold anymore the metal pin.

Thanks for additional feedback, raemin - makes sense.

Replaced the speedometer sender/generator, and did a test drive, but no success (both speedometer/odometer still do not work).

Simple sender installation, but while rotating/installing the sender in-place, it would feel tight before using all the available connection thread - I did confirm that the alignment was correct. I can apply some WD-40 on the unused thread surface and try again.

Can this lead to a poor connection and no generation of sender signal? Should the sender use all the available thread for a proper installation?

I installed the seal that came with the sender, but was not able to remove any (old) seal that likely remained on the gearbox interface.

Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

    Thanks!

On dinoplex.org there is an explanation of the expected signal. If you do not have an osciloscope you can give winoscillo a try.
