Having trouble with mirror adjustment using electrical control.

Started off with the driver side mirror playing up so I bought a new one from UK supplier, Maranello Concessionaires, which has been fitted.

No improvement and now when I go to adjust either side mirror after using the selection button, both of them work separately at random and sometimes together irrespective of which side I have selected.

Would it be the actual control unit located on the door which incorporates the side selection button and the actual mirror control pad?

Appreciate any suggestions before I buy a new control unit.

    Thank you Tony

yup, there's nothing else in the circuit besides the switch and the mirror motors/solenoids.

I vaguely recall taking the switch apart and cleaning it. If it's the one I'm thinking of, there's springs and balls inside, so opening it in a plastic bag or otherwise planning for parts popping out is a good idea. Sounds like one of the balls has slipped out of position and is bridging multiple contacts inside the switch.

search the archives for alternatives to the ferrari switch. There may not be an exact replacement.

I read in several threads that old BMW 7 series controls can be used as a replacement but nobody ever made a clear statement whether those are identical or just similar.
You wrote that both mirrors are "working" together irrespective of the selector switch position. Do you mean they move simultaneously or they are just clicking at the same time? The latter would be normal.

The BMW switch might be a close match to one of the 308 variant switches but I think the 328 switch is a one off - its also not available any more so be very careful if you take it apart!

On my 308 I took the switch apart to clean the inside. It did not help. Discovered it was just a bad ground connection.

    Thank you for these comments.

The selection switch can be positioned for either the passenger or driver side and when I operate the adjustment pad, either or both mirrors will move which means that both are receiving an electrical signal.

I may take the switch apart to check it out as another post suggested that a ball may be out of position.

As it is now, I have to adjust by hand anyway so nothing to lose.

    Again thank you Tony
