I would like to hear from f-chatters their favorite automobile related book and why they like it ....

My favorite is "The Kings of the Road" by Ken Purdy ... written in 1949. This contains snippets of great cars like the Bugatti Royale, Silver Ghost, Merc SSKL along with chronicles of racing drivers such as Nuvolari, Caracciola, etc.

The piece on Nuvolari is the best automotive piece of journalism I have ever read. Ken really brings Nivola to life. A must read even if have only the mildest interest in racing or automobiles...

I'm a nutcase about the Mille Miglia, the Targa Florio, and obscure French and Italian small displacement sports-racers. There some some good, but no great Targa Florio books, and none has a complete entry list.

As to the Mille Miglia, Orsini, who is also a Ferrari guy, did a book Mille Miglia, Una Corsa Italiana which is superb, and has complete entry lists for ever year. It is, unfortunately, only in Italian, but well worth having even if you don't understand the language

Another great book, but also only in Italian, is La Sport E I Suoi Artigiani 1937-1965 (the sports cars of the artisans), which covers a substantial portion of the small displacement Italian sports racers from marques such as Siata and Stanguellini.

There was something written by Denis Jenkinson about his experience in the MM with Stirling Moss in 1955. Stirling himself has like written a chapter on his experience..

I'm a MM and TF nut. I specially love those tiny machines of 40's made in small workshops around Fiat components wearing ultralight and aerodynamic bodies or those Cisitalias showing the hansome functional bodies due to the genious of Savionuzzi.
