I have always loved the ford 289 hi performance engine built in the mid 60s and then modified sliGhtly and used in the 65 thru 67 Shelby gt350 as well as many I'd the original Cobras ..
Goes back to my college days of running them hard and then keeping them running in my buddies gt350 .. Truly an easy engine to work on...then Again the big block 427 Chevy was and is a real pavement pounder .. Another buddie in high school had a big block corvette and when he skipped class and left the car would rattle the windows in the school didn't really fool anyone...
The new stuff is great like the f-12 ending and the speciale but it all comes to easy now...
Alround favorite for me is the 1966 289 hipo

I always imagined the 427 tri power (435hp) '67 vette motor would be one of the nicest classic US motors, but you guys would know better- I've never driven one, just looked at car shows- '67 convertible with that motor is my favorite corvette. That story about the windows rattling is hilarious LarryH!

To me, the 355 is more of a screamer than the testarossa- 8,500 RPM w/throttle bodies, hyperflow cats and tubi on mine- my wife wants to know what all those pops and crackles are when off throttle slowing down...I say they mean everything is running just right- paid good money to hear all those noises! Amazing her Buick has a similar sized motor and sounds so different, if you can even hear it though all the layers of sound insulation ;) I'd still love to experience the full run through a few gears in a testarossa however- the original dream car of mine growing up!

I know a guy who has had many ferraris through the years, and I've been fortunate enough that he let me drive many of them. But the one he had that I never got to drive that I really did want to was the 16M- convertible 430 scud!! He traded it in before I had the chance. I think that car is the most exciting Ferrari of the past 20-30 years (excluding the supercars (Enzo, F50, etc). I did drive his straight pipe Enzo .......I will never forget that experience. His garage and house shook when he did a cold start in his garage! Yes, that 6.0 V12 is worthy of being on this thread, as is the 430 scud (and of course any of the 50-60s v12s)

This engine began as a 350 cubic inch (5.7L for the Europeans) but was bored and stroked to 6.6L. Makes 840HP with one carburetor, no nitrous, no forced induction, but a huge cam, all on pump gas. I wish I had my phone on video mode instead of camera mode, but to you American muscle gearheads (I am one too), you know what this engine sounds like at idle. For those into quarter-mile action, the car runs low-to-mid-nines.

My favorite engines ... a heavy-breathing small block Chevy and my Modena with Stradale ... just depends which side of the bed I get out of. :)

Great engine! That's about 127 HP per litre on pump gas - can you share the specs?

I see your point. Indeed, 16M's engine sound was/is absolutely stunning! I also had an experience with a straight pipe Enzo...and i have to admit that i wll remember it until the end. WHAT A INSANE SOUND!!

For me Enzo's V12 remains the best engine from Maranello.

Actually as much as I love Ferrari, for pure engine porn I can't go past any of the great Edwardians - just love the fact that so much of the mechanism is open and can be seen operating, plus the beautiful little brass details you often get. Sorry I don't have any pics to hand.

Big twin at 11k rpm. (Preferably in a tunnel).

Open air box is right by your head and the sound of air being sucked into the motor is quite loud.
