Pssst....."Unfair Advantage" by Mark Donahue. Good read and tells all on all the acid dipping that went on. He even takes about my screen name thingy!
'Wouldn't know. 'Haven't seen ya... 'Asides.....that's subjective. On a more serious note... As awesome as it was, I still favoured the little Kiwi team's M8s (all iterations) and the B&D Show as opposed to monster Porsche's effort. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jim...I am participating in the historic days leading up to the 500. This is my friends 63 Watson that was driven by Roger Ward to a 4th place in the 500. My friend asked me to be part of his pit crew and also offered me a stint in this car to drive the Brickyard for a few laps. A very special opportunity I must say. Roger's son Rick Ward will be with us as part of our team. Rick will drive the car too. A once-in-a-lifetime experience it will be. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great opportunity! If that's not the car Ward won the 1962 race in, it's basically identical. Have fun!
That 68 car is very nice looking, at the Unser Museum in Albuquerque. Not a question I can answer, but I read it somewhere. Would Penske have had the facilities himself to acid-dip blocks back in 1970-72? I know TRACO did the Camaro and Lola T-192 engines back in, what, 68-70? Ya know, I think if I wanted a Can-Am car, sure, I'd LOVE to have a 917-10, or 917-30, but if you bang it up or blow it up, it's probably toast forever, so with that said, I'd probably take a good M8D or M8F, or the VDS from the mid-80's. Or Stewart's Lola, just a lot of neat cars back then..
3 pages and no one has mentioned Novi yet? Maybe it's and age thing Saw/ heard one run at Fontana a few years ago at a vintage race. The sound will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and some of the design cues were rather interesting too
