Classic photo. Looks like it's about to be a whiskey throttle and impromptu wheelie into a fence moment
That's a hoot! Never happened to me or Steve with the motorcycles, but you bring back a memory of when one of my nieces "whisky throttled" the gas pedal on my go-cart and crashed into the tractor shed behind the barn... Shaken up, she survived unscathed.... Needless to say, she stayed away from the motorized toys from then on... ...And the time my brother crashed into rain barrels after failing to slow on a rain soaked (tractor) trail; again near the tractor shed! I found out when I walked into the bathroom, and he was soaking in the tub, all bruised-up, after a quick recovery effort by our mother... That was my on Chaparral 80cc.
Thx. It worked well, though I had to regularly replace the steel wool in the baffle, otherwise the 2-stroke motor hesitated under higher power commands due to lack of back pressure.
Hahaha! My second earliest motorcycle memory is of my mum doing the exact same thing on my dad's XL250... I think we all must have a story like that- a rite of passage into the 2 wheeled world perhaps!
Reminds me when my wife and I were on Bermuda and she wanted a scooter of her own(she was never a rider before but she is a know it all) told her it was not a good idea. Her road test from the rental was “ride down the road to bottom of the hill and turn around and come back up” She went down the road and at the bottom of the hill went straight through a row of hedges eventually stopping on someone’s lawn. The scooter and she looked like a camouflage version of herself with all the branches. It was my first victory in a long running spousal battle Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
My wife did the same thing in Thailand but instead managed to only travel 5 metres in the parking lot before attempting to duck under a tree branch and toppled over on her side. I'm fully aware of the dangers of riding a motorcycle and never would have let her get on the road but a trial by fire was necessary to win the argument and not be accused of "man-splaining"...
I really like my R9T as well... last weekend, I did a 250 mile day trip with some friends. Bike is surprisingly comfortable! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Somebody got a deal on a first-year wing. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1975-honda-gl1000-gold-wing-10/
My favorite motorcycle, and the one I hope I’ll never part with, is my 2004 Tuono. It’s Italian, brutal V-Twin, raw, and lightweight—everything an analogue machine should be. And yes, it’s still perfect for traveling. I bought it new, and it’s clocked 35,000 km so far, mostly from weekend trips and short vacations. Every time I ride it, I feel at least 10 years younger. I have a MilleR as well, which I love, but the Tuono is "my bike!".
After the Monster 1100 evo, I really like my new Streetfighter V2 - maybe unexpectedly, I find it more relaxing to ride. The good news with motorbikes is that I can still be excited by a new model (unfortunately that may become more difficult, with Ducati ditching the desmo timing on their newly announced V2), whereas new cars are not igniting much passion anymore. My favourite is my 1971 Laverda 750 SF - makes all the right noises, looks good, handles well and has ****ty brakes. What more could one ask for? Cheers Esben
