Have you guys thought about the paint design on the cars you like?
Picture those same cars with totally different paint schemes, would you
    still like them?
A late-80's Williams in any other color - blah.
Same thing for a McLaren in any scheme besides Marlboro (debatable)
    Gold Leaf team Lotus?
    Early 80's Renault or Brabham?

    Just a thought..

I do, too. It's probably a bad thing, but I've always liked the livery of anything motorsport with tobacco ads and not just F1. Davidoff McLaren F1 GTRs, Silk Cut Jaguars, Camel Yamaha MotoGP, Rothmans Porsches etc.

  9. Agreed. 'Wuz devastated when Colin went commercial.
And you don't see opposite like this anymore.... :(

The nose was striking, but not the rest of the car.

And nobody can argue against that.

Outside of F1, I sure did like the Penske PC10B.

it depends... there have been some really striking sponsor team colors... and some garish.. I tend to think the liveries of today are too much... the mid 80's was about right..

but when you look at movies like Grand Prix, its hard NOT to like those cars... simple clean and elegant.... fantastic sounds and not to mention dangerous.

  17. Errrggghhhh. You realize (or not), of course, the cars in the movie were F2 dressed in F1 appearing bodies. Sheep in wolves clothing so to speak.... ;) :)

    I must (it's genetic don't you know...)...
    It's not an "Eagle/Westlake". Why?
    Because it's an Eagle/Weslake...(no "t") :p :)

ALSO: I've been reminded by a friend that I was mistaken. For shame, for shame. Please forgive me.
The cars in "Grand Prix" were not F2...they were actually F3 disguised as F1. ('cept the de-clothed GT40 camera car ;))

Well said. The 80's and early 90's were spectacular, a volume of unique designs and liveries, even the failures caught your eye ie; Toleman, ATS, RAM, Lambo..

As far as Ferrari, the Michael Schumacher V10 cars, F2001-F2004 is the sweet spot.

    312T is iconic as well.

And of course the shark nose too.

My top 5, in no particular order ( I am a bit of home team fan in terms of drivers, I suppose)

    1. !967 Gurney Eagle - Gurney wins Belgian GP in this car of his design
    2. Ferrari F2004 - dominant V10 era car with the shriek to go with it, Schumacher at the wheel
    3. Lotus 78 - ground effects realized with Mario at wheel, classic JPS livery
    4. McLaren MP4/4 - just looks like what an open wheel race car should to me
    5. Ferrari 156 Sharknose - Phil Hill WDC and timeless, elegant lines

    I also love the 312B, 312 T, and Lotus 49
