Stupid comment ,ever been to Coventry,I 1st went there in 1970,25 years before that the Nazi had flattened it,within 6 years Jaguar drove there race cars to Le-Mans and won then drove them home.thats passion.
Passion is when a fitter eats his lunch in the cockpit of half built E-type lwt.

I'm not going to get into a Ferrari vs Porsche argument, especially not on a Ferrari forum but I agree with you. To say that Porsche (or Jaguar) had/have no passion is a load of crap. I could argue that Porsche had not only more passion than Ferrari, but more soul.

Without doubt, I'm the lamest driver here, having spent the last decade in HK and Japan and not driving. The last car I owned was a 3.2 Carrera and when I compare it to the 308, the clutch and gearbox is so much easier to use on the 308. I was shocked by how easy it was to drive the 308, except for the slightly heavy steering and wooden brake feel (a feature that seems unique to my car at least). If the 308 is easy, then I can only imagine what a 458 is like.....

porsche are just more meticulous and Teutonic, the fact they don't smile is because the fatherland has a 2-0 scoreline :)

the way they went about attacking Le Mans is the PRIME example, they collated huge amounts of data and applied it to the next generation of Le Mans warrior, the Italians would wake up after a siesta and realise they needed to put an extra engine in the back of an ALFA to keep up in F1 and put some more sheet metal on an F1 car for Le Mans

One of the interesting things about Ferraris is the difference between 'loving' a car in a photo and then seeing it in real life. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good!!

Fitzgerald & Merritt(1976) .. my bible in the early days, had a 250 designed by Bertone on pages 149& 154. One was Silver (a colour plate) and the other was a dark colour (a BW photo). This was my FAVOURITE car .. I couldn't (and still can't) think what was wrong with the shape.

Secondly in Cavallino many years ago was advertised for sale was a 250 Lusso that had a 250 GTO type nose. The photos in that magazine were absolutely gorgeous, the price must have been reasonable as I seriously entertained buying the car. I can't remember whether it was a moggy or not, as these were before the internet and so on.

In 2004 I met #3269 at Quail lodge, the picture on post 29, and was absolutely stunned at how beautiful the car was in the flesh. I must have entertained the minder at the time with my drooling as he gave me a drive from the lodge to Highway 1 .. as a passenger :(. I was NOT disappointed. even though I was surprised how little get up and go it had .. it MADE the right noises.

I was convinced there was a silver one around somewhere as per Fitzgerald & Merritt .. unfortunately only one and nowadays I would suspect a multi million dollar car.

By coincidence I post occasionally on the 550/575 forum and a regular poster there (WBKlink) actually owned #3269 many years ago and parked it on the street (eeek!!!). Of course, you guessed it, he was a musician

In 2007 I met the Lusso special at Monterey ... MOST disappointing compared to the Cavallino photos and NO desire to own. I couldn't even get a flattering photo!!!

Dave456 gets the cigar ... of course #3269 was designed by Bertone.

here's the deal. Driving a 355 F1 spider:- you can answer your phone. You can text.
you can have your arm out of the car.
    It basically drives you.

Driving a 512 BOXER:- you don't answer your phone.
    you don't text
you have to DRIVE this car or else.

Driving and F40:- same as above

stupid is it. Italians have an inbred passion for clothes, food, cars and lots of other things.
I find it hard to explain my passion for Ferrari's, except to say that driving a BB or an F40, gives me a feeling that I'm driving something very special. That has a long history with F1 etc. etc.
I look at a 250 GTO or a 330 P4 and of course and F40 and I feel that I am looking at cars that are pieces of ART. As well as being cars.

I just don't get that feeling with looking a JAg's OR BMW OR Porsche or any other car.

It's an honour to own an F40. Let alone one of 4 LM's (gtc) in the world.
If you don't understand this, then I can't explain it to you.
    It's called PASSION.

we all knew it was a Bertone design Phil :)

I have your book as well but consider my Hans Tanner's version to be the bible

BTW the picture of the Bertone bodied car is on 148 :)

what a piece of ART. The attention to detail on that car by michelotta, was just amazing.
Only 4 of them in the world. How can any of you talk to me about e-types (saw 25 at RACV awhile back) Porsche........see hairdresses driving them everyday and I just laugh.
    That LM is awesome.
