FCA-DFW TOY RUN

Carolyn and I just don't know when to stop, so once again we are doing the 8th Annual FCA-DFW Toy Run on Saturday December 8 2012. If you have not been paying attention for the last 8 years this is a run that Carolyn and I do to garner toys for children in need. Our first run had about 19 cars and last years run had 105 cars.
We will meet at a place disclosed immediately prior to the run usually a day or two. Then we will launch cars in groups so that things don't get balled up at traffic lights and other direction change devices. This years run looks to be about 80 miles long through some nice country.
I hooked up with a restaurant yesterday that can handle the number of cars we anticipate and they are going to do a fixed cost buffet for us. They have a big parking lot and are on a very easy access to get back home when the festivities are over.
We know where we want to start and we are trying to work out those details. Because we are involved with the FCA 50th anniversary event and going to the F1 race there will not be a whole lot of additional info until we get back from the race.
I will tell you this about this years run and that is we will try to get most of the highway driving out of the way before you get to the start location. Once the run begins there is just a bit of city driving and then the marvelous roads of this area.
Of course we do not have all of the run down but we work much better under pressure.

Hopefully this weekend Carolyn and I will finalize the route. I always say that and then we get to a previously scouted road and it is under construction or something like that. So we shall see what this weekend has in store for us.
Meanwhile everyone get your steeds tuned up as we will have a thoroughly enjoyable route for everyone to drive

 

Carolyn and i have split the run up into the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sectors, to make sure that we don't spend too much time in one area and that the run flows pretty well. As I had anticipated we ran smack dab into trouble in our little transfer route from the 1st to the 2nd sector. This was a little 5 mile run, not particularly interesting but it did get us efficiently from point A to point B. This was OK 3 weeks ago, today it was missing a minor aspect ---a bridge. I have no idea what was the matter with it but it is gone now.
So out came the Roads of Texas "Bible" and Eureka in about 20 minutes we found a really neat CR road that filled the bill quite nicely and is much more interesting-driving wise. So with a couple of drive backs and some miscellaneous driving the route looks to be about 80 miles and the roads are in surprisingly good shape. We have constructed this years run so that virtually all of the highway driving is done prior to the arrival at the start place. We are on 4 lane roads for only 4 miles once the run starts and then about 6 miles at the very end. City driving is confined to about 3 or 4 miles at the start, but only a couple of lights. I think you all will really enjoy this one.

I need to finalize a couple of items with the people at the start of the run for parking lot use and I will post the start in a couple of days once the final items are put into place.

I really need to know the number of people that will be attending this year--not only the number of cars for maps but the total number of people for the restaurant.
