Anyone here doing the FCA spring drive this Saturday? http://ferrariclubofamerica.com/calendar.cfm We are going.....
May 13. Spring Drive / Rally to Lake Geneva, WI. First of two drives. Leaving Barrington at 10:30 a.m. Back roads rally to the French Country Inn for brunch. Info and registration: Pete Consolo (847)381-5555, e-mail: peter@ lakebarringtonrealty.com; or Hugh Ruthven (847)382-3020, e-mail: [email protected].
Saw this flyer at Continental today. The chef and meal sound great. If I go it will be last minute, which may prevent my spot for the special meal, but it would still be a fun drive. I'll have a soup. TR & 308 need service, just took TR in today for electrical gremlins, we'll see...
Heck, with the FOCs spring drive last year, braving sleet, hail, rain, and everything else mother nature could throw at us, we had, what, 7-10 Ferraris. I'm just surprised with the silence from the "usual suspects" here on the board.
Silence is a weird response when you're expecting enthusiasm. I know it, because I've been there many times (e.g. Drive an exotic on June 24, so far I'm the only one on it from this board) and will be there many more times going forward. Just the nature of the beast. I'm sure the FCA spring drive will be a fine event, I just have no interest. Nothing personal, since I'm planning on doing other FCA events this year. Just this one doesn't tickle my fancy, that's all. But I'm sure the 20+ participants will have a blast. I also hope that somebody will post some cool pics on here. Whether I'm in an event or not, doesn't matter, I'd like to see what it was like. Maybe I'll change my mind for next time. From a club perspective all I can say is that as a club we (FOC, FCA, CAROC, doesn't matter) have to try these things. My experience so far is that you can never predict what people like and sign up to. You just can't. But if you do an event a couple of times, you will know from the turnout whether it is worth persuing or not.
I looked a lot at that..... figured it would be a very cool event. But, too many other things vying for that $800 at the moment.
I agree I checked into the June 24'th event, but $800 was needed somewhere else. I was tempted to see you off Andreas and take some shots.
I think that it looks like it will be a fun drive. But I just started up my new Business....FINALLY!!!! ( I will make an announcement post as soon as I have the website done. It was "Official" yesterday, May 8th.) And, I also just had Knee Surgery. So, I have been really tied up lately. And I try to get as much done as I can on the "off weekends" when I don't have my son. But, if I can get away for awhile that day, I just may join those guys! I just didn't want to commit too early, before I see if I even can. But, I am always up for a drive.
I would be tempted to be in attendance for the ride, but my baby is not quite ready for the event. So, another time.
I'll photograph the drive and post it don't worry.... Should be great drive as long as the weather holds out, Forecast from weather .com is: Showers possible. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the mid 40s. as of Wednesday night, but they cant ever forecast Chicago weather correctly.
Guys my car is out of action for the moment. Need to get a check engine light taken care of. I am waiting for Lake Forest to get it's act together. This is what happens when you let good people(Lee/Drex) leave your company. Thanks. Vince
Hey, did you try the Gas Cap like I mentioned? That has been the Gremlin/Culprit of MANY a "Check Engine" light experiences for myself and alot of other people that I know. Try it! It can't hurt. I mean, if the car was fine the last time that you drove it, BEFORE the day that the light came on. It's a good possibility that the cap is the problem. The new, computerized cars these days are very sensitive little creatures....You can't even SAY anything thats not "Politically Correct" inside of them, or else their teeny little feelings get hurt. And they might revolt and do something back to you like that. Let me ask you this, Vince.....Did you say anything....Anything at all, inside your car lately, that would "offend" some whiney, crybaby little Over Sensitive Yuppie type? If so, your car may also have gotten offended.....The only cure is to take it to a "Drive In" Movie- there's one left out on North Av. in West Chicago called "Cascade Drive In". And show it some Manly Action Movies....Preferably, with some good car chase scenes. Maybe a couple of Crashes, (Only of crappy cars, though) Lots of Gun Fire and Swearing. And, also show it the "Whitesnake" video with Tawny Kitaen swirlwing all over the hoods of the Black and White Jaguars. That should take care of the problem...and it should get over it!... It will be back to it's old, masculine, Italian Stallion self! (BTW...No Charge for the "Tech Tips".... )
Make sure the drive-in shows "Goldeneye". If they show "The Rock" or "2 fast 2 furious" then quickly leave. When my 308 has a bad day, we watch "The Hidden" together and feel alright again.
Ruby always wants to see LeMans. She starts saying, "Put it on again, come on put it on again, please, please, huh, would ya please?" . I scream back,"GAWWWD not again!!!" . I give in, but then, all the way through the flic she moans and whines about McQueen driving a Porsche. . On and on she repeats, "He should have been driving me, what a team WE could have made." . I loudly reply, "Yeah right, like McQueen would want to drive YOU in a race at LeMans, IN YOUR DREAMS!!" . Then, to top it off, she wants me to turn it off, so she doesn't have to see the P-car win, even though her dear precious McQueen is driving. . From there it's two full days of her moping around. . Go Figure.... . Sometimes I wonder if this is all worth it....... Tempremental I can deal with, but this is getting out of hand, the guy's been gone for years!!! Makes me feel like John Ashcroft losing that election to Mel Carnahan, after Carnahan died in the plane crash. Real nice, see what I have to live with, it ain't all peaches and cream, like some may think.
Well someone had to represent FOC and it mine as well be me. I only went to see the cars off then my arm was twisted to come along, thanks Pete and Hugh. Well my trusty Taurus made the trip. She needs some rest after playing chace car to a Super America, a GTO, and a few other Red blurrs on the back roads of IL and WI. I guess she fitted in somewhat since the Taurus is a Bull and that's the symbol for Lambos, Kind of like a distant relative or that game of 5 ways relating to Kevin Bacon. Either way approx. 12 fantastic examples of Ferraris and a few Vettes made the trip through scattered rain and we all made it safely for a great brunch. Some pics will be forthcoming, especially of the GTO clone.
Wow! I really did not think that it would be a "Go", today, with the Rain and all. I'm glad that some brave souls did venture out in the elements and made a crappy day into a good one. And had a nice day nonetheless.

35 people with 17 cars and lots of rain made for a special day. Special thanks to Kay and Hugh Ruthven for the detailed route. Brunch was just fantastic. Made some new friends along the way.
