My thanks to the folks at Ruf Auto Centre-Hans, Jacky, Wayne and Carl for allowing us to use their fine facility. My personal thanks to Mike Luongo for taking time out of his busy schedule to talk to us about the idiosyncracies and peculiarities of our cars. There were some very interesting questions from the field of attendees especially concerning the role of the computer in the operation of our cars. To all of the FCA members that were in attendance thank you for your support I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. still getting the bugs of non-use worked out, but still have managed to put about 600 miles on it. It is an extremely nice driver with just enough patina and mileage that I am not afraid to drive it. The strangest thing is that the new Kuhmo Ecsta XS happens to be one of the most highly-rated max performance tires and JUST came out in F40 sizes so it was nice to retire the vintage Eagle GSAs. The car has turned a few laps at MSR and I was pretty pleased. You have to manhandle the car but it is pretty neutral, predictable and stops and goes well. I'll never run it at 10/10ths I don't think, but it is nice to know it is not a garage queen.
I think when Keith says he's driving below 10/10ths he is really just telling us that he won't use the grass as a passing zone.
Ouch. Just so the history of this car will be 100% clear in the future, I will do only parade laps in the F40. Nothing harmful, reckless, or detrimental in any way to the resale value of the vehicle. Merely exercise necessary to keep it fit.
What's the point in having it? Your depressing me! If you do not drive it as intended, I just may have to come to Texas and give you a driving lesson! Free of charge of course.
My favorite Keith moment was at a NASA event last year. It was during quali and my 911 was still in narrow body configuration so I did not have the pace to match Keith in his Turbo Miata. I was on a hot lap when I see Keith coming up on me pretty quickly, also on a hot lap. Normally I am very good at moving over and giving up a lap to a faster car but the session was near the end and I did not have time to risk giving up my flyer. As we go into Ricochet my plan was to hold my position at track out and allow Keith to follow me through and move over before me to get set up for Lil Bend. As I get to track out I look to the inside for Keith and can't find him? Next thing I know I see a flash of yellow on the outside as he is executing the pass over there! Now mind you, I was at track out on the edge of the pavement so Keith is making the pass at full throttle with 4 wheels in the grass an inch off my door. I checked the time sheets after and we both put in our best lap of quali on that lap. (So this is not to be misconstrued, while aggressive I consider Keith one of the safest drivers out there. I have NEVER been worried about contact driving next to him. My reaction as this was happening was 'Wow, that was pretty cool!')
ok, I stand corrected, I think Keith should give me driving lessons, multiple ones at that, in the F40! So Keith, I am going to be in DFW this weekend so any chance of a F40 driving lesson?
well this topic sure took a left turn! I will be at MSR for much of the weeekend, but not with the F40. I have another project or 3 in the hopper out there. Frankly, I can pretty much guarantee the F40 rides will be more tame than a Miata or Lotus ride. This little Monster may be pretty good when I get it tuned: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just following the rules Rob. While it is prohibited to improve position by leaving the racing surface while racing, there is no such rule for qualifying.
Not a problem, you can leave the F40 and keys with Rob or the Marriott DFW Htl and Golf Club near TMS, Attn: Redtrman. We promise to take good care of her over the weekend. BTW - have a great time this weekend, but you should take the F40!
