I was just filling out my entry form for the Ferrari Hillclimbs held the weekend of September 17 & 18, 2005. There will also be an open track day at the Fernley Raceway on Friday the 16th.

Are any of you guys going this year? I am planning to attend the trackday and the hill climb. I met some great people last year. It would be great to get a bunch of the Nor Cal Rampage group together to run the hill. This time we won't be breaking the law!!!!

Yet naother year I miss out. I'll be out of the country again. I *really* wanted to go this year too. Someone's gotta show the locals how it's done! (It won't be me... but someone, really, I promise!).

Mike - you making our neck of the woods permanent now? Just get over it and buy a house out here!

You don't have to be a member of FCA. Last year they had a guy running a Ford pickup truck! He must have known someone!

I will try to scan my entry form and email to those that need to enter. It was a lot of fun last year. This year should be an improved year having a track day on Friday to setup your car.

I plan on tracking my 360 on Friday and running the hill in my 550.

Had one. Problem is California's progressive tax system -- it's rediculous! A few years back my CA taxes put me into the AMT and then I lost all deductions and things went downhill from there. So now Nevada is my home, and my company's home, and I have a place at the 4seasons which I call home once a month or so (as a tourist now). Its great -- this morning I had breakfast at 4seasons, coffee in Union Square, lunch at Infineon, and home for a BBQ. I'm likin' this arrangement. :)

You can join for $135 no Ferrari needed.
check them out. http://www.ferraripacific.org/ . I don't know much about the hillclimb...couldn't find a registration page or anything.
Can anyone else out there help us find it???
I am a rookie member (and quite possibly the least affluent of the bunch).
I just went to the annual picnic and people were very nice. No snobs or jerks, and just about everyone is just waiting for you to ask them about their ride. There was one F50 but the rest were classics and daily drivers. The new board member that welcomed me was real cool down to earth guy. You would't know by talking to him elsewhere that he own three (!) and hot rod, too. he gave me his home # and has since helped me find tech advice too.Nice group of people.

What are the specifics of the climb. Would I get to drive my own car? Costs, etc.

The climb runs the truck route (5 mile run) located on the east side of Virginia City. They close the highway and run the cars one at a time with a 1 minute gap between cars. The runs are timed each day. You will run either a morning or afternoon run each day. You will have a 1/2 day of course work, which is assigned by the event orginizers. It's an easy job, you just sit up on a section of the course to radio if some crashes.

The cost is $390, includes dinner Friday and Saturday nights.

This is some footage of last years Hill Climb. Most is from my 360.

Do they allow shifter karts? Or would they put the car times to shame.

If they would, I would bring my 125 shifter. It's got to be street legal!!!

My buddy has been trying to put a hill climb together for motorcycles and karts. No luck yet.

It would be safer to ride a motorcycle or kart. Just strap on a parachute so when you fly off one of the cliffs you can just pull a cord and release the chute to survive.

Friday: Show up in the late afternoon for a tech inspection and a parking lot BBQ.

Saturday: You will either run morning or afternoon, the schedule will be provided on Friday. You will also be assigned at time for working the course (one day for only a few hours).

Saturday night: Dinner at the Gold Hill Hotel. Lots of fun with the hill climb group.

Sunday: Morning or afternoon runs up the hill.

Sunday night: Awards dinner at the historic Opera House.

I will also miss the pre-hill climb dinner. The real fun is the hill climb.

I'll PM you my cell # before the hill climb. I'll be driving a black 550 with XSSSIVE on the plates.

Speaking of tech inspection... I've got a small oil leak(cracked pan, 8-10 drips over night when hot). Will this bar me from running?...Hey Brian, could you sponsor a tune up for me? I can barely afford the entry fee and helmet this month, but I have to go...I could die my next birthday, so I'm livin'... L-I-V-I-N ... I'll be your advertising whore, shirts, vocal PR, brochures, biz-cards, CAR VYNILS, ANYTHING for an oil change and carb adjustment, maybe clutch adjust...not that you need PR (does any one take their car anywhere else???)....<SIGH> I have resigned myself to "NORMAL" driving this year.

Sorry I really don't have time (2 old time regulars have me booked to get their cars ready). Bring a rag and wipe off the oil before we tech it Friday night at the hotel. Make sure the fuel hoses, coolant hoses and belts will pass inspection. You have to have a fire extinguisher WELL MOUNTED. I will grab it and try to pull it off. Make sure your helmet is an SA and 95 or newer. Good tires are needed but we dont stress brakes like we do at the race tracks. You will use them harder on the return road than the climb.

Thanks Brian, thats awesome. Does anybody have an idea on room rates/availability in V.C? I'm trying to stay in V.C for the night and I'm wondering if it is still possible to get a room.

Prob nothing available unless someone died in the last couple of days. Everyone makes reservations for the next year before leaving and we pretty much fill the town. You can call the Virginia City Hotel and ask Heather if she knows of anything. Best bet is prob. Carson City, it is only 15 or 20 minutes away.
