Hey guys and gals. DON'T MISS OUT ON THE EVENT OF THE YEAR! Room are sold out at the Westin for Wednesday and Thursday. Get your reservations now for Friday and Saturday if you want to stay at the host hotel.

Note that we have other hotels at special rates in Savannah if you need Wednesday-Saturday night.

The meet honors the Challenge cars, drivers and teams as its themes. The legacy (348/355) and contemporary (360/430) cars will compete in a wheel-to-wheel race to commemorate the series.

This event, FCA 2011 www.fca2011.org, has something to offer for everyone. The Racer, Track Rat, the Lover, Wife, and Family..... the cook can check in with Paula Dean at Lady and Sons on West Congress Street www.ladyandsons.com.

First of all, this is being held in one of America's great cities-Savannah Ga. Did you know that Savannah was the fist planned city? http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/n....jsp?id=h-2547

A perennial top ten destination, our host hotel is the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa on Hutchinson Island, only a 5-minute free ferry ride to Savannah's beautiful, historic downtown riverfront.http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarG...8105&key=AC670

Our track is the 2.0 mile Grand Prize of America track on Hutchinson Island in Savannah, GA, only a short walk from the hotel. The track, built in 1997 for an Indy car race, has recently been renovated and much improved. It is the host track for the Historic Sportscar Racing in conjunction with the Hilton Head Island Concours.

Check out this promo video done by SCAD-one of the best media arts and design schools in the world. This is actual footage of America's first great automobile race- The Grand Prize of the Automobile Club of America that was held in Savannah in 1908 http://www.americangrandprize.com/id8.html.

And here is a rolling slide show with track, hotel, and city scenes

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiYHMcEtEFo[/ame]

Our concours will be held on the Westin's manicured golf course driving range, surrounded by the track. You are encouraged to come early, stay late, as the Westin offers our club's discounted rate for three days before and after the meet and there is so much more to see and enjoy in Savannah, Hilton Head and the nearby Georgia and South Carolina beaches. Savannah has many alternate hotels ranging from the Marriott, Mulberry Inn, Hyatt and Bohemian to dozens of fine bed and breakfast inns.

Check out this map to see just how convenient everything will be (this can be seen here www.fca2011.org if this link will not load)

Jump in now, rooms are sold out Wednesday and Thursday at the host hotel, but the Bohemian and others are calling.... www.bohemianhotelsavannah.com/

Looking at the registration form in the FCA newsletter, seems like this is a full track event. Is there a way to be involved if you don't want to track your Ferraris?

Yes, Yes and Yes! There will be a rally and concours to participate in, and lots of other fun stuff to do. The track is but one part, and of course the minority of participants. There will be far more people doing the other things that will soon be listed on the website! But then again, you will be too busy as a volunteer to enjoy them!!! LOL!

Guys, just got back from a long weekend in Savannah. Stayed at the Olde Harbor Inn one night, and then two nights at The Mansion. I have to say I just love Savannah. The great food, try Elizabeth on 37th www.elizabethon37th.net, and the Mansion www.mansiononforsythpark.com is simply luxurious! The track is looking great, park like in the way they have cleaned it up. Jump in and get your rooms now...only 98 days to go! www.fca2011.org

I made my reservations a while ago. I called to extend the stay until Monday and they said that the FCA rates do not apply for Sunday June 13th.

John, I think we have several days prior and several days after to encourage folks to stay over. I'll find out what happened. My bet is they are mistaken, and need to be corrected.

Thanks guys. I will call them back tomorrow.

What are the track requirements (helmut rating, tech inspection, etc.)? Will the track events be driver ed? Will passengers be allowed during track heats?

I just spoke with the Westin. Apparently all the block rooms are sold out for the 12th. It is hard to imagine that there are that many people who are staying over after the end of the event. Well, I suppose I am. Anyway, they said that they cannot honor the rate unless more rooms are requested by the group. It really isn't too big of a deal as I snagged a AAA room rate for $260.

I think this was just solved a few moments ago. The reservation center will have this resolved by Monday, and should give you the rate of $199 per night. Please let me know if this is not resolved!

To add to this there are other places that arent quite in Savannah, but are still a reasonable driving distance away. So check out the surrounding area. I will be glad to check out anything or help out if I can as well since I am now relatively close.

    Greeting FCA members and friends:

Hey guys and girls-it's time to get going! The meet is almost here and hotel space is gone at the Westin!

Go to www.fca2011.org to find the details, and register for this once in a lifetime event. Check with the hotels listed as we have special rates at hotels just across the river. As you will see from this video, the Ferry that runs from 7am to 11am will take you to the host hotel where all the activities are talking place.

The Bohemian Savannah www.bohemianhotelsavannah.com and The Mansion on Forsyth Park www.mansiononforsythpark.com are two of my favorites, as they are part of the www.kesslercollection.com/hotels_resorts/hotels.asp

Hey, Hey, who is interested in getting a rally up for the event? If you cannot make the track events and the Seibert Cup on Thursday and Friday, make sure to attend the Concours at the Westin. See the N.A.R.T. Spyder and all the other great, and rarely seen cars.

Perhaps now is a good time for me to chime in and offer some tips on the parking in Savannah for those coming for the meet. I've lived here 6 years in the downtown area and here are some tips for those bringing your Ferraris.

Broughton Street has free street parking all day for up to 2 hours, that's the main shopping street downtown. Anywhere else is metered but free after 6PM, so don't feed the meters at night!
The Hyatt and Bohemian hotels on Bay Street are pretty easy going with you leaving your Ferrari parked out front, just ask the valet guys, give them a $10 tip, and you will be set. They won't move your car even though they will hold your keys. The valet guys at Corleones Italian restaurant on MLK are also another option.
Vinny Van Gogo's pizza near the market square just off of Bay Street is a great place to eat pizza alfresco and there is almost always parking in front of the restaurant (3 spots where the tables are). All other spaces are open only after 6PM or you will get a ticket ($14 last time I got one).
For those staying at the Westin, the free ferry will take you accross the river so you will have easy walking access to just about all the places you want to go to downtown. You can leave your Ferrari at the Westin if you'd like, just be back in time for the last ferry.
Broughton street is the safest place to park as it is well lit and there is always foot traffic there, even after hours, so that's always my first choice. Some of the squares nearby, anywhere along Bull Street, Abercorn Street are also good choices as they are well used.
Watch for slope changes in the road when entering and exiting squares, also lots of cobblestones, drive through with ease. Hope this will help.
